my ferret - 8 yrs old - update
DH went to change Stinky's water and give him food. Stinky hopped out of his cage which is normal. DH picked him up and noticed he just didnt feel right. His stomach looks swollen and when she touches him in on his stomach it has a jelly like feel and also tight at the top. It's almost like the same symptoms that Mushy had before Mushy died but not as bad. It's swollen but not as swollen as Mushy was.
So we called the vet tonight to get an appointment for as soon as possible. DH left a message and indicating the symptons are similiar and what he felt. So hopefully we can get an appointment for this weekend.
My poor ferret. 
Update The vet does not believe it is cancer.  But he did say he is getting up in years (life span is 8 - 10 years) and the splean is the first thing to start going. The way the ferret looks, feels and acting in the vet's office (hyper and wanting to play) he feels he has a slight infection which is causing the swelling. He suggested minor surgery that the vet will go in and remove the splean. He said when the splean gets this type of bacterial infection it's not an easy take medication and be better it can get worse and cause other problems down the road.
So Nov 15 he goes in for removal of his splean and while the vet is in there he'll look to make sure their is no cancer tumors forming and if their are he already has the ferret on the operating table he'll remove the tumors.
We do have to give him stress medication for a week before surgery and some other medication he said which will calm him and prepare him for surgery. The vet was really positive and confident that all will be fine. But the thought of surgery
