So where are all the white trash at

I am sure a lot of people here have heard about this area being white trash and this one and blah blah blah. There was even a discussion here awhile ago about levitt town and people there were defending their town blah blah-- saying that people can say what they want b/c it is the reputation of the town that keeps the prices reasonable for the town. my question is i suppose is that is town's reputations true? i moved in lindenhurst not that long ago (don't know the town 100%, moved b/c my gf said it is nice) and someone i met who also lives in the town was telling me how he hates this town b/c it's such white trash. not everybody but most. i felt ashamed i suppose that i had chose this town to live in. like, good God, what must people think of me when i tell them where i live. i don't know if everyone knows Broad Channel in Queens??? But everyone says it's all white trash down there. and i believe it because i hear it and b/c what i see. So my question is what do you think of my town-- Lindenhurst? Don't know if it makes a difference but I live in the village, (south of sunrise hwy).

I used to live in Lindenhurst-almost my Chateau La mer and i have to say I love that neighborhood. There are some nice parks. It is clean. the one negative is that the lots are small. As far as the white trash thing I think that is ridiculous. I live in an area that people may think is "trashy" but we bought what we could afford and are not planning on living here forever. Also I don't care what people think! I am the one who will make 100K on my house because everyone in the "nice" neighborhoods paid top dollar for their houses and the market is crashing now.

I would feel the same way if I moved into a town that I heard had a bad reputation. And before moving there knew nothing about it.

totally ridiculous statement, yes.

But I think it is a very much unsaid feeling amongst us all. You want to live in a "good" town. My SIL was looking in Shirley and Mastic because that was all she could afford and it is not a nice area to bring up three young girls, IMO. And it is always an opinion...never fact. Look at Howard Stern, he grew up in Roosevelt...

whether people think you area is good or not should really have nothing to do with you or how you feel about your neighborhood.

Homeownership is hard...Everyone has their opinions, likes and dislikes of all areas...

a homeowner should research the area and take into account what they can and cannot afford to make the BEST decision for them...

People better get used to criticism because it is there ....for ALL neighborhoods...

So get over it and make the decision that is best for you.

IF YOU do not like your area...MOVE

If you LIKE a area....FLUCK what everyone else has to say...

IMO there is no such town that is perfect to everyone
