When are you going to start saving?
For the baby? What month or trimester? Meaning for when the baby comes not when he or she is older.

Re: When are you going to start saving?
Do you mean for its college and stuff or for baby stuff? We already have money saved for baby stuff; that was part of our decision to TTC. But as for college and what plans to pick and take part of I'm still reading up on that kind of thing. I think that part of the planning will always be an ongoing learning process.

I am opening a 529 today. I will open in my name and then transfer to baby when born.

Re: When are you going to start saving?
I started saving as soon as the wedding was over for my maternity leave. I plan on having 6 months unpaid so I really needed that cash in the bank to cover our bills.
I plan on opening a 529 account for the baby once she is born. All money she gets for any occasion, plus a small monthly sum from mom and dad will go into that.

For what when the baby comes?
We arent saving much. We have enough to pay for things needed for baby like diapers , clothes etc...
For the future though, we will start to save.

Re: When are you going to start saving?
we've put away a few thousand over the past few months to buy furniture and any extras. Once she's born i'll start a 529 plan.
ETS: i didn't start at a special time, just when we had spare $. I kind of knew the time frame that we needed to have it by.

Re: When are you going to start saving?
We started to save for maternity leave as soon as the wedding was over. Some of that went to infertility expenses.
As soon as I finished my first month, life insurance on both of us was set up for the future children and we had a meeting with our financial advisor. Everything is in place and contributions are being made on a monthly schedule. I'm really disciplined about that.
IL's gift to the babies will be some stocks and bonds. They will have a portfolio before they can even say the word. I wish I had started that early

Re: When are you going to start saving?
I'm sorry, I wish I could start saving! I have a relatively new mortgage, the usual bills and will soon have to pay for daycare. I just discovered that one of the walls in my kitchen is totally destroyed due to a leak and has to be re-sheetrocked and painted. Living on Long Island and owning a home does that to you I guess - it's sometimes so hard to make ends meet. I hope to put a little away over the next few months before the baby is born. I already told close relatives/friends I will not be exchanging Christmas and Chanukah gifts this year. Any money I make after bills, etc. will go toward the baby. I just wish I could contribute more. Once I give birth, however, I plan on saving as much as I can for 's college fund.
