Women's soccer legend Mia Hamm her husband of three years, Los Angeles Dodgers baseball player Nomar Garciaparra, are expecting twins, Time reports.

Hamm, 34, played for 18 years as a member of the U.S. women's national soccer team and officially retired after the 2004 Athens Olympics. When she hung up her kicking shoes for good, she had scored 158 international goals, an unmatched record.

As the first female team-sport superstar, the Wichita Falls native won two World Cups and two Olympic gold medals – and she popularized a sport among some 5.5 million girls under the age of 18 who play soccer today in America. She also broke down sexual barriers in the once male-dominated fútbol strongholds of Brazil and Germany, according to Sports Illustrated.

Because of her pregnancy, Hamm recently declined being inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony due to take place next February. Hamm reportedly informed officials that she would accept the honor in 2008 instead.

Hamm and Garciaparra, 33, live in Los Angeles. The baseball star joined the Dodgers this year, after having previously played for the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox.
