Hip Replacement Surgery?

Anyone have any experience with this - either themselves, parents, grandparents, etc?

My MIL was told tonight that she needs it and because she's on the young side (mid-fifties) she needs to get the ceramic hip, not the plastic hip/metal ball joint).

I was wondering what was the recovering rate and time was for something like this. Also, was the person fully-functional (limbar, walking perfectly, etc)? She works in NYC and is worried that even after the surgery she'll have trouble with the subway steps.

i work in a physical therapy facility, and we see 2-3 new hip replacement patients a week.

It depends on age, and overall fitness of the patient, but most are completely back to normal (full function!) in about 8-12 weeks. (less for younger patients in decent shape.)

The subway steps will be slow going for her for a while, but she'll be back to normal in no time.

My Fil had it done along with knee replacment, He too is in his early 50's. He recovered VERY fast!

My Moms FI had it done toward the end of January, I think he was feeling really good. He's in his early 60's.

He does need to have the other one done, but I don't think he had any problems at all, still rides his Harley
