Gender frequenting this forum?
Just wondering what the male/female ratio is on the Parenting board?
I'm male, and I'm trying to get my DW to either use my account, or get her own account here. There are a lot of very useful discussions that I think she could get information from and/or contribute to.
It seems primarily female based, but I guess that follows with the traditional caregiving roles. DW is a SAHM, but I spend every possible moment with my DS and DD. Everyone at works knows better than to ask me to work overtime... :)

Re: Gender frequenting this forum?
I've gotten used to being the only dad at some of my DS's karate classes, and Gymboree classes. I see too many shows (like the most recent Trading Spouses) where the kids say "I wish Dad spent more time with us." I am trying so hard to make sure my kids never have to say that. That's probably one of my biggest fears as a dad.

That is awesome of you...one day your kids will realize how lucky they are to have such an involved dad.
May I ask...how did you find the boards?

I'm actually doing research on expanding our house (when we bought it, we had plenty of room, but it's amazing how much space two little kids take up! My computer room had moved out to the dining room so my DD could have her own room.) By just searching for home building/contracting/idea sites, I came across the Home board here. (BTW.... also a very helpful area... :) ) Since I was here anyway, I figured I'd poke around, and found the Parenting forum.

Re: Gender frequenting this forum?
Welcome. You're right about the ratio, however there are one or two other Dads but they aren't on here that often. I know my DH started reading the posts and responding after he heard me talking about them. But he's at work so he doesn't get a chance to that often. And I remember there being one other dad too. Times they are a changing. We went to Gymboree Sat and there were 3 Dads in a class of only 6 or 7 babies!
ETA there is more of a balance on Home board for sure.

So nice to have a Dad around here... there are some more men that hang around on the Home board and on NFR but on Parenting it's just you and one other.
Your kids are lucky to have such an involved Dad. I hope your wife decides to join us soon.

thats good to know. I am female but dh definitely would come on if he knew there were another male on here. We just had our daughter last week. Can you give us some info on the daddy type classes you attend with your children either post or fm. My dh is like you wanting to be very involved. I know he would do a gymboree class if their were males there.

They aren't "daddy" classes. Many times, I'm the only dad at Gymboree or karate. There are a lot more dads on Saturday classes. I have every other Friday off from work, so I can go to some things during the week. I also had 8 weeks off, recovering from a minor surgery, so I got to spend a lot of quality time with the kids.
I've just learned to blend in with the moms. I've never felt out of place. I think most moms appreciate seeing a dad getting involved.
I've also seen several Grandpas at Gymboree and karate. If Dads didn't have time when they were working, they make up for it after they retire... :)

Re: Gender frequenting this forum?
I was posting more when I got to stay home for the first few weeks after DD was born...working sure does get in the way of things!
I know HannahsDaddy also posts sometimes...our DDs are close in age.
Even if you don't actually post there is a lot of great advice here.

Re: Gender frequenting this forum?
I think it's wonderful to see the Daddies posting, and seeing how involved you are in bringing up your children.
DH reads this board all the time, just doesn't like to post.. but he often reads threads here at work and emails the links to me, so when I do get a chance to log on I can 'catch' up easily with relevant post..
Glad to have another male here
