What comforts you during the holidays?
I was just baking (something my mother LOVED to do). I am always comforted by using recipes she wrote out and just seeing her handwriting makes me smile. What helps you keep a smile on your face in light of your loss, especially during the holidays?

 ya know i keep reading this post and im not sure if i have an answer to this question..honestly i try to ignore the strong feeling of sadness and longing during the holidays--maybe thats not the healthiest way to deal but if not then sometimes i think the sadness would consume me..
on another note, i do rememeber my dad tyring to convince my lil sis that there was a santa claus..she was terrified and he said he would leave a note for santa on our stoop to leave the gifts there and that he would go out and get them in the morning lol
my dad was sucha good dad

Memories. We have lots of fun ones from around the holidays and it feels nice sometimes to remember them.

Nothing. If I could go to sleep the day before thanksgiving and wake up new years day I would be a happy girl.
This is a very sad time for me.

Thanks for the hugs Jen. I am not normally one to let myself be overly sad. It is just between her anniversary and then Christmas I miss my mom soooo much!

I completely understand...I hope in time you'll be able to enjoy them again... although, I know it has never been the same for me

Some years are better than others. I miss both of my parents in different ways because my mom died so long ago and my dad only 3 years ago... but th holidays have so many memories of both of them. I try to remember how much joy my dad got out of GIVING gifts. I also look at a lot of old pictures to remember the amazing times growing up. I was very lucky to have had the time I had with my parents... I keep repeating that in my head!

Being with my Dad, who was married to his love for 52 years, and having beautiful memories of every Xmas with My Mom Dad, and 2 brothers. You never know when things change so, my advise it cherish every minute of every day and just be greatful of everything and everyone.

Seeing her handwriting on the recpies and putting up ornament on my tree that were once touched by her, it makes me feel closer to her- if I concentrate really hard I can almost hear her voice when I look at certain objects of her memory...
