Burping Question
Does you baby fight you and arch their back when you try to burp them? Kevin cries when I take the bottle away to burp him and he arches his back and makes it really hard to burp him. I know thats a sign of acid reflux but he doesn't do it always, just a lot more lately.
Also...
1. How do you burp your baby? On your shoulder or sitting up on your lap?
2. How often do you burp? Every 1/2 ounce...every ounce?

Re: Burping Question
No, Christopher has never fought me, but he hates having his bottle taken away from him.
I usually burp him sitting in my lap. That seems to work better for him, but if I can't get a burp out that way, shifting to the shoulder seems to do the trick. I try to burp at every ounce.

Re: Burping Question
Nate also cries hysterically when I take the bottle away, I have to put the pacifier in his mouth so he can sit still on my lap while I burp him. I usually burp him half way through the bottle and when he'd done.

Re: Burping Question
I burp Sarah both ways. My girlfriend's son was hard to burp, and she used to hold him up in the air under his armpits and he always burped. She thinks it stretched him out and helped him relax to pass the gas.

Re: Burping Question
I burp him once 1/2 thru the feeding and then again at the end. Sometimes he won't even stop for the mid-feeding burp so I just do it at the end. If he's having a hard time burping, I lift him in the air two or three times, then back on my shoulder and it's almost always a guaranteed burp.
DH burps him sitting up though and that works too.

Re: Burping Question
I burp him at the end of the bottle which is 6 and 1/2 oz. If i try to burp him before he is done he screems the whole time I try to burp him. I also burp him both sitting up and over my shoulder.

Re: Burping Question
did your dr. tell you to burp a lot? sometimes they dont need it. I had to burp every few ounces till her mild reflux was gone.

Re: Burping Question
The nurse told me to burp him after each 1/2 ounce but he just wouldn't bring anything up. Now I burp him every ounce and he sometimes spits up with the burp but I figured he'd really spit up alot if I waited until the end.
He has really bad gas....he cries when he make (what we call) "heiney toots" (farts). It must really hurt him. When he sleeps and toots it doesn't faze him, only when he's awake.
