Godmother buying baby's gown

Hi everyone. I have a general question. I thought it was the responsibility of the Godmother to buy the christening gown. Has anyone else heard of this or is it just in my family that this is done? Thank you very much and have a great day.

I bought my god daughters gown but I had my sister pick it out and I just paid for it.

thats the way its done in my family...not sure if thats the norm!!

I bought my niece her's since my sister did not think it was necessary to spend the money on a gown. So I picked out what I liked.

I am a god mother and yes that is usually how it is done however my goddaughter had her mom's christening gown so I didnt have to buy one. So me and my husband are the godparents we got her a diamond cross so that she can wear it for the christening and it is big enough where she can wear it as she gets older

I'm also a godmother and bought my neice's gown. My sister went shopping together and she picked it out; I paid.

I bought my neices gown-my SIL picked it out and then I went to the store with her and paid for it.

I bought my goddaughter her gown, shoes, socks and the bib. Actually they gave us the bib for free after all the money I spent.

I bought my nephew's suit and his godfather bought the crucifix necklace.

I bought my 2 godsons' outfits. We went out shopping and then I paid.

I'm my nephew's godmother and I bought him his christening gown, though my sister picked it out.

we do this in our family as well, my sister will be buying our daughter her gown

I dont know if I'd call it a "responsibility" as much as a "tradition" that some people follow. With my oldest the GM bought the outfit. With my middle child, she wore my gown. With my youngest, I bought the outfit. The GM didnt offer or bring it up so I wasnt going to make it into an issue bc its not a rule or responsibility IMO. That said, I'd offer to buy the outfit if I were a GM (I have been a GM 3x and all 3x they wore a family outfit so I lucked out I guess LOL) but I dont have the expectation of the GM purchasing it.

I bought my g-ddaughter her dress, shoes, diamond cross and gave her a gift.

If the g-dmother isn't offering to buy it, maybe there is a reason or maybe she really doesnt know what to do.

Yes, I bought my godchilds gown. I was told if you are the godmother you do that.

hey, i'm actually new here and wanted to share

my goddaughter wore a family gown, so i paid for an outfit she later changed into at her party and bought her a diamond cross she wore that day and can wear in the future

but i agree its more of a tradition than a must

For many families it is traditional for the godmother to buy the gown and the godfather to buy the cross.

It can't hurt to mention to the godparents what the traditionas are, they might not be familiar with them. But I wouldn't be offened if the godparents don't follow it.

Some families don't do it this way. It is not a must.

MY DH and I bought our god daughter her gown (her mother picked out the dress and we paid). My sister bought our daughter's down. I picked it out with my sisters help.
