To all the ladies who aren't close with their moms, do your best to become close. i realize everyone's situation is different but you only get one mother and one time to be with her. time is too short.
I disagree with this. I think there are some mothers who have given up their right to be called a mother by their actions. I'm speaking of abandonment issues not just an argument. Family is a subjective term. No one should accept a toxic person's actions just because they gave birth to them. (Not speaking of my mother at all - but some of my friend's moms).

I have to agree with you 100%. I am not close to my mom-heck we're not even on speaking terms. I've have come to the conclusion that some women were never meant to be a parent and my mother is one of them. Over the years we have battled over everything and anything... and the last straw was an argument we had while i was PG. Now with my own child i can't understand how as a parent you can treat your child the way she did.

I feel I am so lucky and blessed to have my mom in my life. She is my guardian angel and I don't know what I would have done without her over the years. She is my best friend besides for my DH.

I totally agree with this. This is true for my father.
As for my mom, we are as close as can be. I adore her and can't even begin to think of being on this planet and not having her around.

Im really close to my mom, sometimes to close. I mean she will call me like 6 times a day, and if I dont answer the house phone she will call the cell. I love her dearly and we can pretty much talk about everything, we just skip the Sex talk, it makes me nervous. I also can tell her she is completely nuts and she's fine with that.

I love my mom we're super close. We're the same person and I see that I'm more and more like her everyday and it makes me laugh out loud... turns out it's not such a bad thing.
for those of you who don't have a close relationship with your moms... hopefully you can take that and turn it into a great relationship with your own children or someone special in your life.

I am VERY close with my mom, she's my "best" friend. My mom is extremely caring, loving and supportive and everyone loves her! We can literally talk about anything.
One of the MANY things I love most about her is she is always there for my DH and I and will jump for us and my sister in a heartbeat.

I have to agree with this also; not from my own relationship with my mother but with my mom's relationship with my grandmother. My grandmother is a toxic person to be around (not just an agrument - she is verbally abusive) and my mother has struggled with their relationship her whole life. That's why when she had my borther and I we became very close b/c she never wanted us to experience what she went through.

I am not very close with my mom, for many many reasons.
she was a very young mother so we basically grew up together. she means well, but we were just never able to develop that quintessential mother daughter relationship (the same is actually true for my father)
sometimes personalities just don't gel, even in such a close familial relationship.

now things have improved greatly and now that I'm a mother, I know she means well.
the main reason why we haven't been that close is because we are so different, almost opposite.

Not close to my mom...never have been and don't think I ever will be. I never call her and if I do it is usually to talk to my dad, she calls me once a week, maybe, and the convo is less then a few minutes.
We are nice to each other when we see each other but definitely butt heads...ALOT. Like Bxgell was saying my MIL has more interest in my daughter then my mom does...just something I accept. Our relationship used to upset me but not anymore...and I am so happy I have a  so I can share a true mother/daughter bond

We are not that close. We live 5 minutes away too. I try my best, but she is difficult.
SHe is the kind of person who is hard to have aconversation with. When I try to have a serious conversation with her, it's crazy! If she is wrong about something & I try to discuss it in an adult manner, she gets very loud & argumentative. When she is blatently wrong about something......forget it! She will shut down & stop talking.
If I don't call her, I won't hear from her. It's kinda sad. I know she is busy. She works part time ( in the day), comes home & cooks & cleans, goes walking for her exercise. But come on! She could show some interest in calling me sometimes.

My mom and I are not that close. We get along fine but I am closer to my dad. I speak to my mom on Sundays (usually) and I speak to my dad almost every day (a few times a day sometimes)
They divorced when I was in junior high (mom was cheating). I lived with my dad. Interestingly enough, mom is still dating the same man although she did marry another guy in between.

I have a very close relationship with my mom. I feel comfortable talking to her about almost everything. My real dad left us when I was small and for a period of time it was just me my mom and my sister. All 3 of us are extremley close. There is a bond there that no one can ever take away.
