Interesting vacation ideas?
DH and I are starting to plan our vacation for this summer (most likely August) and are looking for some good ideas for places to go. We are most likely looking to go abroad (Europe?) for about a week. We enjoy going to interesting cities and we love non-typical vacation spots (e.g. last summer we went to Iceland and Denmark). Normally, we like to travel on the off-seasons, but due to our job, the summer is our only option. Any suggestions?

I know you said europe...but what about australia?
Or maybe plan a few spots/countries in eurpore you love seeing and rent a car and drive. Like your own tour?

What about the Baltics...Estonia, Croatia, Latvia...
The Baltics all have nice sized European cities and some nice coastlines. So its a bit of a win win situation!
Otherwise, I would suggest Hong Kong...its a fantastic city with EVERYTHING to do, great food, culture, great food.....did I mention that the food there is pretty good??

Thanks for the suggestions! 
We are planning on doing a trip to Australia or Asia possibly next year when we can take more than a week off - like 10 days or 2 weeks. But I really like the Baltics idea - I will definitely look into that!

Cyprus and Croatia are tacked on my map as future destinations. They both look stunning.
ETA: August is a tough time to visit Europe. Most -if not all- Europeaner's are on holiday that month and head out to the island's for some r&r. So it will either be crowded or barren (if you travel in-land). September is still gorgeous weather, less crowds.

Most Europeans go on their holidays June/July & August so those months are popular.
My friend went to Bulgaria on her holidays...by mistake. Don't go to Bulgaria.
