Alaska Cruises - rooms with balconies

Hi All,

I've gone on 3 cruises now, each time with an outside stateroom. In June, we are going to be taking the 'huge' vacation of our lives and going to Alaska.

I've always heard that the balcony was always the best, but I always questioned the money it cost.

I can upgrade our outside stateroom to a veranda room for 1500 dollars more. Is it worth it? Especially to Alaska, would I really be spending that much time on the deck since it's 'colder' outside? Is the convenience worth the money?

Looking for any input!

Thanks.

I think balcony is the only way to go on any cruise!

My parents went on a cruise to alaska. They had a balcony and they LOVED it. I say DO IT!

We had a balcony and I wouldn't have done it any other way. We had 30' seas one day and everyone on the boat was sick --including crew. Having a balcony helped a LOT (so did the seabands, Dramamine, and the radio where we could listen in to the crew so we knew about the seas even tho they didn't announce it).

So worth it!! Especially for Alaska, where the weather will be cold - you won't have to drag yourself up to a deck everytime you want to see something.

Totally worth it - remember Alaska is all about the scenery while cruising - you just dress warmly and sit quietly on the balcony and relax - you won't have to fight people in the public areas for a view - before upgrading though try to find out which side will have the most to look at.

When I went to Alaska I didn't have a balcony. My friends and I got blankets (they gave them out up on deck by the pool) and sat on the lounge chairs looking at the scenery. It was so peaceful we fell asleep Chat Icon

I need to convince the DH......

Last night he was still going on about how he doesnt think it is worth it, that we can just go up on a deck when we want to see. UGH.
