This is what I get for caring....
A student of mine was out for 5 days...No note no phone call from her house. We tried to reach her house and no answer...I was literally losing sleep over this. There are issues going on and I was really worried. A home visit was done and her apartment complex was contacted.
Well the student was on vacation...I finally get a note from the mother...explaining that she was on vacation and at the bottom the beoch writes and in the future don't send people looking for me OK next time I will just cut to the chase and report you
Sometimes this job really gets to me

***???? What a beeyotch....btw I have kids that are pulled out for weeks at a time for vacation too....pisses me off big time!

Bottom line: you are a mandated reporter. Had you not reported a 5 day absence and something wasn't right, you could be held responsible. I report and over report. If a kid is absent once, I tell their social worker. I can sleep at night knowing I did the right thing.

I think you took the proper steps. Sometimes they don't think. Obvious school is an inconvenience for this children's parent. Sorry you dealt with this.

You absolutely did the right thing.
I agree with the above post... funny, it's never the "honor students" that are out for weeks and weeks on vacation. FF to the end of the year and the parents are wondering why their kid isn't graduating from high school on time

Kathleen, you took the proper steps. My sil is going through some issues with her husband which unfortunately is causing my niece to miss school. Luckily, my sil contact the school & notified them of the situation. The mother of that child is obviously braindead.
