My LONG Savannah on St. Patty's Day review!

I need to begin by saying that we had SUCH a wonderful time! It was completely different than what I was expecting, but we had a great time! I imagine that if we went on any other given weekend we would have done more things/different things than we would did this weekend. We are already thinking about when to go back!

Weather- Was colder than we expected it to be. We heard that it would be about 70 this weekend, however it was more like 60/65 and near the river it felt cooler, but still people were in t-shirts and shorts- the alcohol was warming everyone up!Chat Icon

Hotel- We decided to book Savannah late- everything was booked up- but I kepy calling and calling all the hotels in the area basically and ONE had a cancellation...the Hampton Inn Midtown Savannah. It was 6 miles away from downtown and had a Free shuttle that would take you back and forth to and from downtown until 3am. It was 3 ***'s and was $228.00 with tax.
***We got to our room very late because when we arrived the room was not ready and the shuttle was there- we were ready to go- We didn't get to our room until night when we were ready for bed- It was DIRTY and COLD! I never stepped foot on the carpet-Showered with my flip flops on and slept with my head on DH's chest the entire night- It was beyond disgusting and all I can say is that thank goodness we weren't in the room very long.
***I was NOT expecting luxury-I knew what kind of hotel it was and really we just wanted to be in the town to have a good time, but I DO expect a hotel to be clean, no matter what it costs!

Restaurants-
We ate some of the street vendor foods throughout the day- but we sat down to have raw oysters and calamari and The Oyster House on River Street
It was good- service was slow-Drinks were Chat Icon fabulous!

We had dinner at a Tapas Restaurant - I believer on Broughton Street, named Jazzed- It was very good...(CT girls- Barcelona is better, but still I would recommend it) They had a live jazz band that was really good too! Service, slow again... no big deal

We had breakfast/lunch the next day at Huey's - Slow Service, long wait- well worth it! The food was YUMMY!

Bars - I can't even tell you where we went because we hit up a lot of bars and clubs- we were dancing by 5:30pm. People were drunk by 12pm-and it simply continued throughout the night. I equate it to Cancun with more clothes on and lots of green! A complete party atmosphere with lots of varying age groups- however the majority being people in their 20s. It was a sea of people- a decent amount of security...but there were some fights- bound to happen when you have that many people in one place doing a lot of drinking.

We did not get a chance to do any tours unfortunately because it was so busy and we were just having a great time doing everything else that we were doing- but we will go back and we will absolutely do the tours- they have many apparently.

there are lots of cute shops to go in, many jazz bars, clubs, lounges, restaurants-

the parade was really nice- NYC cops were there too! That was cool to see! Lots of horses with green hair-cool floats-
they had 3 live band stands- and bands played all day and all night- some were GREAT, some, not so much...

they have some different activities-bull riding-bungee thing-games-etc...

The Victorian homes are impressive... the trees lining some of the streets are beautiful...the water was peaceful even with the crowds!

We didn't know what to expect on St. Patty's Day, but we did have a wonderful time! I would HIGHLY recommend going to celebrate there- and I would recommend staying a few extra days to do more of the relaxing things...

Have you ever stayed there or you go for the day? Next time we go we want to stay at a MUCH better hotel than we did this time- we are thinking the Hyatt...
