anyone know anything about PAXIL?
i'm a regular but didn't want to post this for all to see. i'm not embarrassed--but there are too many lurkers for me to take chances.
does anyone take paxil or know anyone who does? i may need to start but am worried about side effects like insomnia, etc. i also hear it slows your appetite (which wouldn't be that bad i guess!)

I was on it for a while. I have panic attacks, well I did.
IT was great for me, I loved it.
No side effects at all...I didnt lose weight though like they SAID I might though...  LOL
Anyway, I only switched b/c I was TTC and its a class D drug in Pregnancy, dangerous to the fetus.
I will switch back to it once I have the baby though.
ETA-It takes a few weeks to start working.

A family member of mine just starting taking it last week. So far I see negative side effects on him. He is using it for depression...

I have taken paxil for years for anxiety. Please FM with any questions you may have. And do not be embarrassed by it. I got over that a long time ago. You are doing the right thing by getting yourself the help you need.

My mom was on it for depression... and I didnt do anything...(if anything lead to feelings of suicide)
But she isnt the best example because God knows if she even takes her medicine as perscribed...

I was on it for a while. It worked well. The first 2 weeks I felt like sh!t until it 'kicked' in. I didn't lose weight while on it though.

A long time ago I was on it for a short time. Made me sick to my stomach and actually increased feelings of depression.

It works when taken as directed and at a therapeutic dosage. It can have an effect on your sex drive. It is also used to treat people with OCD.

thanks for the responses.
i'm really not embarrassed--it's just i don't want the "wrong" people knowing about my personal life.
my sex drive is already zero--a big fat zero. i've actually read that in women it can help their sex drive, while in men, it lowers it. That would be great!
i read that it takes 2-4 weeks to kick in. how bad are the side effects until that happens? and do they continue after it kicks in?
basically i'm doing my own research before i go to my doctor appointment this week because there are some side effects that if they're common (like insomnia), i won't take the medicine and will have to find a different one.

the thing is no one can say if YOU will get the side effects or not. Theres no way of telling.
One person might get bad insomnia, one person wont.
And all side effects are only until your body gets used to a medicine and they fade.
For me, the relief from anxiety was worth anything I might have had, but I didnt have anything anyway with it.
Then again just cause the Paxil helped my anxiety doesnt mean it will help you or the next person either.
We can only tell you OUR experiences, but I dont know how much help that will be in the end anyhow.
