Dr. appt yesterday - irregular cycles
I'm in the exam room, the nurse comes in and she says "So, you're pregnant?" I'm like "uh.. I don't THINK so.." I took two HPT's both neg. They did another one and it was still neg.
So I am now on day 43 with no period. I went to the Dr. yesterday and saw the NP - she said they don't really get concerned until you don't have it for 2-3 months. She said she thought I would be getting AF sometime this week (saw some stuff, I know TMI ). I asked her how am I supposed to know when to BD if my cycles are irregular and she said to chart temps and maybe try OPK's but not to get obsessed with it. I am pretty sure DH and I are going to start trying either next month or in June, does anyone have any advice?

Re: Dr. appt yesterday - irregular cycles
I was told the same thing by my doctor...she told me to return if I don't get AF for 3 months straight or I have one year TTC.
I suggest you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, MPH
I just started using OPKs as per my doctor's request after one year of trying.
Good Luck

I would defintiely try OPK's. It really takes the guess work out of it. I actually found myself obsessing LESS with OPK's bc I didn't have to monitor by bodily charachteristics (CM, etc) as much.
Good Luck!

This really pizzes me off.
PSA: IT IS NOT NORMAL TO NOT GET AF FOR @ FOR 2-3 MONTHS! I wish there were some Dr's on here. But really girls if you are not getting a period at least every 45 days-there is something up.

I agree - I used OPKs last month and i didnt get a positive for so long. Now I am not obsessed with it and i know that eventually at some point i will see the surge. It has definitely made me a much more relaxed person.

Re: Dr. appt yesterday - irregular cycles
My cycles are quite irregular normally. Oddly, just before conceiving both times, I had random "perfect" 28 day cycles. I can't recall too many times I've had a 28 day cycle in all the years I've been menstruating. My first 2 OBs never questioned me regarding my cycles, my 3rd and current OB did and was dumbfounded that I had gotten pregnant naturally. My cycles range from 33-45 days, I hate it.
eta--The only thing I've ever heard that works is birth control...which obviously isn't something you need if you are TTC. My best piece of advice is to relax about it as much as possible and try to monitor things but don't obsess!

yeah... i thought it was not normal either, which is why I went to the dr. I went off the pill in Sept. had about 30 day cycles, and I was ovulating around day 15/16. Then the last one before now was 35 days. Now I am on CD 44 and have just a little bit of brown spotting here and there.
She said to monitor my cycle and keep track of when AF comes and we will look at it again when I am due for my annual appt. in August. I would like to be PG by August, so I guess we'll see what happens. I'd just like AF to show up already so we can get this show on the road.
ETA: thanks for the words of advice everyone! I don't want to become obsessed right away, but I have this irrational fear that we will have issues TTCing.

Re: Dr. appt yesterday - irregular cycles
My cycles were irregular too. I didn't want to spend so much money on OPKs because they'd have to be taken so many times per month. Someone on here suggested the saliva ovulation kit. It's reusable and effective!!!! I used it everyday to get used to the patterns. Good luck!!!!

Re: Dr. appt yesterday - irregular cycles
My cycles are irregular too - the first time I got pregnant it was after like 9 weeks of no period. So just because you have irregular cycles doesn't mean there is a problem.
There is a very simple and inexpensive solution -- BD every other day. I doubt your husband will mind and whenever you ovulate you'll be set.
