Can i post here about a dog for adoption?

I'm new and don't know the rules.

I have a 10 year old beagle that I can no longer keep. i am looking for a good family to adopt and I am desperate. She has all her shots is purebred, spayed, housebroken and very active, healthy and friendly. Please help! My husband wants to bring her to the pound but I don't want to do that, she is a really great dog and loves to cuddle.

Please do not bring your dog to the pound. All of the municiple shelters or "pounds" are kill shelters.

how long have you had him??? i hope not all 10 years if youre wanting to all of a sudden get rid of him.

is there a reason?

if you need to truly get rid of him please do not go to the pound. even if it means putting an ad up on craigslist. just not the pound.

also, any pics??

I have had her 4 years. It was not a sudden decision to give her away. It was a long time coming.
She needs a new home because she needs more attention than we can give her. We have a baby in the house now and with working full time there is not much time for her. She gets into everything looking for attention and ruins everything you leave around (which I will disclose to anyone that may want to adopt her). She is just looking for attention and I think would stop these behaviors if she had people around more but I am at my wits end with her. She is not a bad dog though. She loves people and loved to cuddle.
If you know anyone please contact me. I'm not a horrible person I love animals and would never open the door to let her go or anything like that. But dh is much less patient with her than I am am and is getting more frustrated with her everyday.

Look, you may be doing this for 'the right reason' in your mind, but when you get an animal, it is for the life of that animal, not just when something (someone in this case) comes along and trumpts your attention. Tons of people have been in your shoes (new Mom, works full time), but they don't think to get rid of their animal. I'm not saying you are a bad person, but you are about to make a bad decision.
How can you after having this dog, who I'm sure gave you unconditional love right from moment one, give her away after 4 years?????? How is she seriously not a huge part of your heart? That's just crazy. Of course the dog will get into things if you aren't giving her attention. I'm sure you could make it work. It angers me to no end when people just get rid of their dog because it gets a bit hectic.

The dog does deserve the love and attention that you arent giving him. You can try posting ads, and spreading the word. But please do not take your dog to the pound. That would be a horribe horrible thing to do.

If it is an attention thing, can you hire a dog walker/dog sitter to come take the dog out every day and play with her?

Have you thought about enrolling her in doggie daycare? Maybe a few days a week? it might be expensive, but that comes with owning a dog...they are a huge responsibility.

I will keep my ears open for anyone looking for a dog, but please don't bring her to the pound and please consider other options before you give her up...

Please understand that although you are trying to do the "right thing" there is a huge community of animal rescue & anti-abuse participants who frequent this site & particularly this board. Although you are absolutely right in that your child is a priority, we, as a community, are faced every day with seeing good dogs get put to sleep every day unnecessarily because Life at home changed & the dog was no longer a welcomed part of the family. Also, many of us do not see our pets as "just a dog" - even if we have children or not.

For the problems you mentioned there are solutions out there. Behaviours are bound to change when a new baby is introduced, however they do take patience and time, and sometimes additional money and professional training. In retrospect I am sure you would have loved to have known about some things that can help the dog acclimatize to a new baby coming home, but now that your child is home there are still things you can do to include your pup in your growing family. Since it seems like there is no room left for patience with your pet, I truly hope you can find a home for your dog where maybe a little more time & effort will be spent. Please try to do some research & see if there is not a no-kill shelter or organization that can help you. I hate to be blunt, but if you go to a municiple/kill shelter, your dog will be at the top of a Put-to-sleep list given its age, and especially if you let the shelter know that the dog has recently be destructive or aggressive toward your infant.

Judgements are not made out of hate, but rather in an effort to educate and help your pup.

I'm sorry but when you adopt or buy a dog you just have to deal with the financial responsibility also. That includes paying $175 for a trainer if that is what needs to be done. If you had a dog that was well behaved and needed a medical procedure costing $175 would you pay for it?

ETA: I don't think you've done all that you can if you won't take the dog to a trainer.

I just keep reading this and thinking that this is a dog that needs more exercise than it is getting. You said that you have tried walks, so maybe I am totally wrong. I think that you are at a point where a mid-day walk is necessary and I hope that your dog gets that.

Now--if you just know deep down that you have to get rid of your dog, consider asking your vet if he/she knows of a home looking for a dog. Sometimes they take in dogs and sometimes they know of families that had a dog die and may be ready for another one.

if you got this dog four years ago and she is 10, i can only imagine how many homes she has had before you. this poor thing now is being handed to another home? this is just very upsetting to me.

i understand your baby comes first. i do.
you sya you dont have time, but that is why you need to make time. If you had another baby you would have to make time, so it isnt impossible imo. at least i would.

i pray this dog gets whats in its best interest whether that be a more loving & understanding owner who she has known for the past 4 years of her life... or a new home that will HOPEFULLY be her forever home.
