XP: art teacher who can't draw?

i'm looking to go back to school and finish college. i've seriously been thinking about becoming an art teacher, but i can't draw.

can this be done?

i know that there are art teachers on this board and i would like to know if i'm fooling myself.

I am not an art teacher, but every art teacher I know is an artist - does their own artwork, some have showings at galleries, etc.
No offense, but I cannot imagine an art teacher who can't draw.

I have to agree with the previous poster. Maybe there is something else that interests you?

you would have to have at least 30 art credits in order to get the certification. Are you artistic at all? You could take could take some drawing classes and learn.

it's not that i'm NOT artistic at all... it's just that painting/drawing isn't the avenue/medium i'm comfortable with

if that is the case then i don't think it would be a huge problem. Art is not only about being able to draw. I would say take some classes (if you don't have 30 credits already) and see how you do. Then go back for you masters if you like it and feel comfortable.

I taught art for two years and I cannot draw a lick. Granted, in my school the certificate requirements are for special ed since we are day treatment. We are also not a diploma bound program so i also think that art certs didn't matter. I used as many resources as I could and did more crafts than arts.

Re: XP: art teacher who can't draw?

I teach art... have taught it at both the elem and HS level... I dont like to draw... i just do not find enjoyment in it... I feel like I am one of the few art teachers who will actually admit this, and when i tell my students this, i think that it actually makes some of them feel better (the ones who think they cant draw)

Just because I don't like to draw, dosnt mean im not artistic... i design jewelry, web sites, I am a graphic designer, I love working with clay and other crafts... drawing and painting is just not my favorite art subject.

But can I draw? Yes. It is important to know how to draw, but i think it is okay to not like to do it. Learning to draw is learning how to see. Because I know how to draw and see I can teach my students how to draw and see.

Every art teacher is not the best at every art medium. We all have our favorites. I dont think every music teacher plays every instrument out there...
