Re: something is wrong with Jedi

I would have them do an xray of his stomach. My dog Sarge, had a very similar issue. It turned out that, he ate a penny and couldnt pass it and it became toxic. He had to have surgery. Im not saying this is what is wrong with Jedi, but I would have them check, just in case. My Pyxie had this too. She swallowed a penny, but it was too big to pass through her intestines & stayed in her stomach, but blocked any food from passing as well. They removed it with a laproscope (i think that is what it is called), but she looked to have signs of bloat, which is why I recommend keeping an eye on his tummy.
Honestly if you do not feel that the Dr is taking the proper time with your pet, or is not being thorough, then you need a new vet. (IMO) And yes, as Jedi's mommy you are more in-tune with him & can tell when something is off. The vet cannot, and if they are not exhausting every possible test to see what is going on, then they are not doing their job.
I hope you get some better answers from the Dr today
Thanks! I think i'm going to see how he's doing when i go home for lunch and if nothing changes, i might take him to another vet (Browning) for a 2nd opinion.

so what kind of symptoms was your dog showing? was he going to the bathroom less frequently and not eating much?
What happened was, I had brought him to the groomers for the first time, (he was 6 months old) the day before, so when he was acting weird I figured he was just upset about being in a strange place. He wouldn't eat, all he did was lay like a blob in one spot and began vomiting (not too much at first) and he wouldn't go to the bathroom as usual. By the next day he was so violently ill. He was such a sick little man. They couldn't remove the penny with the scope so they had to do an actual surgery, he was in ICU for almost a week.

How is he? I would definitely have them check for foreign objects.

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
Okay so jedi seemed to be doing much better yesterday. He was even going to the bathroom like normal. THEN this morning he didn't touch his food and he threw up a few times.

Take him back to the vet. He's not getting better and they need to start testing.

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
Is he really only throwing up in the morning?? If so, it could be acid reflux... we though Cooper had that and when we thought that the dr. told us to give him Pepcid AC... go figure... turns out he didn't have acid reflux, but that could be what's going on in Jedi's belly...

How is Jedi?
Well the vet said that he seems completely healthy. He said if it was his dog, he wouldn't worry too much. He said we could do blood work, but he didn't want to waste our money. So we opted not to. But he said if we changed our minds and wanted to bring him back tomorrow, no problem. He also said that the whole not eating much and bowel problem could be the result of major teething.
then later on, i went to get in my car to go to dinner and on my seat was this big honker of a tooth. So maybe that is part of it. Maybe jedi is just teething so badly that it hurts to eat right now.
And THEN....
Jedi threw up again this morning. But it's okay i think. You should have seen me and my husband. We had just put jedi in our bed with us since i had to get up for work and i hear jedi getting ready to throw up so i told steve to hurry and get a towel. Then Jedi threw up (sorry if this is too much information) in 2 piles on the towel. Well steve and i are sitting there intensly staring at his vomit. We're trying to figure out what it is (not food) and then steve leaves and comes back with his blue police latex gloves. So i'm sitting there really close to the vomit trying to figure out what it resembles and he has his gloves on... picking it apart. And then there's jedi just sitting on my lap looking at us. Anyway, steve thinks that one pile looks like grass. I don't. It was weird. it was these thin sticks about 2 inches long. Not sticks (they were very thin), but you get the idea. And the 2nd pile was just a bunch of stuff together in a long string type of thing. Okay well now that i've grossed you all out so early in the morning (sorry about that)... i think its okay. I think he's just been eating stuff that was maybe sitting in his stomach waiting to get out. That and the teething combination which threw his eating and bowels off.
what do you think? (i apologize, i'm new at this...)

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
LMAO. I can only imagine in my head what you two looked like running forensics on his vomit
Well, if it looks like grass, dogs will eat grass if they are not digesting properly or if they eat something that is making them feel ill. I agree that the teething may have a factor in it, but if he showed no signs of fever or anything like that at the vet then I would not chalk it up to that exclusively (JMO). Is it possible that he is getting into something that might make his tummy upset during the day, like a plant or flower or something?

Yeah i'm still laughing about it!!! It was a scene, that's for sure.
ETA: i don't think he's eating any plants. We only have 2 and he doesn't really bother with them.

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
Honestly, I would have an xray done of his stomach. He hasn't eaten in like three days, right? That's unusual for a dog, especially a puppy. Did you ever take him for a second opinion?
I'm a worry-wart, I wouldn't be able to stand not knowing....

Do you think the long things might be some kind of worms? Did you describe it to the vet?

See he has been eating, but most of the time he's eating right now is at night. The morning he hasn't been touching his food (maybe thats when his stomach is upset the most), but he eventually does in the afternoon-night.
The vet said he's gained 8 ounces in a week... so he's definitely eating and drinking enough.

no i don't think they're worms. They're not long enough to be worms, i don't think. Plus most worms are in the dogs poop... right?

Yeah, worms would be a back end thing. I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I thought he wasn't eating at all. He may have eaten some long grass and/or string then and it's bothering him.
Keep checking that puke, then and I hope he feels better soon.
