Spinoff to your dog leaving...

As most of you know, we lost Ebony to meningitis suddenly in December. He had been my baby for 11 years, through a divorce, moving back to the US from Spain, a few boyfriends, and a few homes too. He was MY ROCK through it all and the best dog anyone could ever ask for.

That being said.... within 2 weeks we got Scout. No dog will EVER replace Ebony. But, I am totally in love with my puppy and can't imagine not having him in my life now. He is just the best puppy in the world and we both love him so much.

So, don't believe what people say about "having" to wait to get another dog when yours passes. You do not love your dog any less for getting a new one -- you just love the new one too.

Kara,

Thank you for sharing this. Not sure you remember me and you FM'g. I lost my Maltese a week before you lost your dog. I had her for 15 years, so you totally understood what I was going through and probably still am going through. I am so glad you are enjoying your new little one. Lots of hugs!!

I always was a believer in getting a new anim,al to help with the pain of losing the first. I agree with you 100%.

I totally agree! We lost our Honey to old age AND Juno to drowning within months of each other.

Shortly after we got our Boston Terrier, Brutus and I don't think we would have made it without him. It really helped us through it (especially the drowning).

Re: Spinoff to your dog leaving...

I grew up with Nugget - a terrier/poodle mix. She had gone blind and was suffering severe kidney failure. We had to put her down when she was 17. I still get a little teary thinking of her. But Dottie has a new place in my heart, right next to Nugget's.

And, without Dottie, it would have been much harder to deal with the loss of DH's brother. Coming home to her every night after another mentally and emotional draining day in the hospital, was a true godsend. She made everything seem alright.

I actually have the opposite worry. Our cats are the first pets we've had, and we are insanely in love with them. So much so that we can't picture loving any other animals, and feel like it would be unfair to get new pets...Because we wouldn't love them as much as these guys. Chat Icon
