Question about pet stores
I go into the same pet store at least 2x a week, my son loves to play with the puppies. I've always wondered what happens to these animals if they arent sold? Are the put down? Are the sent to puppy mills to breed?
Its really sad to think about

Re: Question about pet stores
The come from Puppy Mills, and usually that is a one way transaction. They will lower the price until sold. If deemed unsellable they will "trade" them among other stores or they will "declare" them as deceased and attempt to get a credit (even if they are not).
Unfortunately, the way that the supply & demand works in that industry, if you buy one they are replaced by 3. I used to want to "save" the puppies from the pet store, but they truth is it causes more harm than good in the grand scheme of things.
I personally will not shop at a store that sells puppies or kittens, and I even try to shop as stores that do not carry any live animals. Every once & a while I will photocopy my receipts for my pet supplies and send them to stores that sell animals & let them know that this is what I spend a month & if they stop selling animals then they could be getting this money from me instead of a more ethical competitor. Not to sound snotty but with 4 dogs & 4 geckos, we spend quite a bit on our pets per month. It is one way I try to fight PMs.

Re: Question about pet stores
my girlfriend's dog was sick as a puppy (treatable) and she wasn't sold they were going to put her down because it wasn't worth the money to make her healthy, her husband uncle happen to be at the store and offered to take her. She is the sweetest dog and they were going to kill her because it was more cost efficient. It is so sad.

Not a bad idea!!! I also do not buy things at stores that sell pets. There are plenty of other places to get pet supplies!!! I have gone in to those stores out of curiosity but I walk out with nothing! I have heard rumors about some really bad pet stores that dispose of animals in the dumpsters right outside the stores.

Re: Question about pet stores
OMG they really do. If the dogs get sick enough & the broker or PM will not give a credit then many of them end up in the trash.
That is why I feel it is so important to take as much action against the PMs, BYBs & Brokers from the top down. Legislators need to know that their constituents do NOT approve of the loose laws & lack of support from the government to close down illegal PMs.
