Teaching at the college level
Does anyone do this? Even just part-time over the summer? I'm thinking about applying to teach a college class or 2 over the summer, just to check it out.
Pros/cons as compared to public school teaching?

I've looked in to it. I was told you need to have a master's in the area you want to teach, not an education masters.

I have my Masters in Taxation, so I was thinking of maybe going that route, and teaching some accounting classes.

you might be able to get a job at a community college as an adjunct. But NY is a tough market and they might want a PhD.

I used to teach at old westbury. After 3 years I hated it but I had a lot of pressure at the time with working full time, masters and teaching college. Eventually I want to go back!

I adjunct at a college, but for business classes we usually have enough applicants with PhDs to just take those. Is your masters an MBA? the community colleges used to take some adjuncts with MBAs, but so many people have MBAs now that it is more difficult.
All the summer hiring has already been done and has been scheduled for months. This generally happens 2 semesters in advance. Submit a resume now to be kept on file though.

Most of the english adjunct positions you need a PhD. Other areas you don't necessarily need a PhD, but the english area is so flooded with PhDs that there are tons of resumes with terminal degrees, which they generally go for before hiring people with a master's.
If you really want to teach full-time in a college, I'd say go for a PhD in english lit instead of a Master's.

It depends on the level (undergrad, grad). I've gotten from $3-4,000 for Master's classes (I was not hired for Master's classes until I was at the dissertation stage of my doctorate--generally you need that much where I am to teach at the grad. level). The money depends on how in demand the teachers are. So for example there are fewer applicants for the science adjunct positions, so those pay more. Business, english, and history are on the low end. It's not contractual since adjuncts are not under contract.
ETA: Where I work all the fall classes have been scheduled and instructors have been hired.

I work at a college and I adjunct on the undergrad level. Its pretty good money for me and I like it.
You have to have a masters at least.
