Re: RE reccommendation
I don't know any RE....but to answer your second question I chose to see my GYN after one year of TTC. She did bloodwork, sent me for a HSG and sent DH for a semen analysis. We both agreed that I should try OPKs for 3 months and then return to her if I don't get pregnant to put me on Clomid.

Re: RE reccommendation
I, personally, would g to an RE. No reason not to, they are specialists and will get you further along, more quickly

Re: RE reccommendation
I go to Dr. San Roman's office in Stony Brook and I see Dr. Stelling. They also have a Mineola office. The number in Stony Brook is 631-246-9100 and they can give you the # if you are interested.
Good Luck!

I have my annual with my OB in July. If I didn't get a BFP by then I was going to discuss options with her then. should I make an appointment with an RE for July also? I am just trying to think ahead because it might be hard to get an appointment.
TIA

Re: RE reccommendation
I would definately make the appointment now. I had to wait almost 2 months for my first visit with the RE.
I also see Dr. San Roman, but in the Mineola office. If you do a search, you will hear mixed reviews about there office. But I have no complaints. I will be starting my IVF cycle with RSofNY next week.
Good luck

I went to my regular OB/GYN first for preliminary testing (CD3 bloodwork & SA for DH). I took those results to the RE since the numbers for both of us were less than optimal. Also with my insurance I needed a referral and my MD wouldn't give one without confirming some sort of need.

Re: RE reccommendation
I was at RSofNY for 8 months and JMHO, it was 8 months wasted. You can do a search and read about my experience. I was not treated medically as an individual. In speaking with others, most of us were on the exact same protocol despite our individual medical issues. I was given Clomid several times, 4 times the normal dose only to later find out that Clomid is not the preferred drug to treat my issue I initially went there beause they are considered a "Center for Excellence" by my insurance company I was later to find that has nothing to do with success rates. They never checked my tubes and this is one of the first things they should have done given my history.
I moved on to NSUH's Center for Human Reproduction where four of my friends conceived, all under Dr. Rosenfeld. He was the one who said I was not receiving the proper treatment and he never heard of my RE at RSofNY (he is a pioneer in this field and knows everyone of note) I did two more IUI's with him and then we moved on to IVF. I followed everything he told me to do and combined it with some practices from Chinese medicine (radical change in diet, massage, etc.) to maximize my chances. Luckily, within three months I was pg and my B/G twins were born this spring.
Despite what many think, OBGYN's have virtually no training in IF issues. Even my high risk OBGYN told me that he refers all of his patients to Dr. Rosenfeld when they have trouble.
I wouldn't waste any time. Move onto an RE.
Good luck

Thanks so much for all the help. i have actually done some searching on here and have read a lot of positive reviews about dr. rosenfeld. i think that would be where i would start. i guess i should just call and see if i need a referral or even if they accept my insurance.
ETA do you know about how long it would take to get an appointment? TIA
