PCOS
Well ladies, I have been lurking on this board for a couple of months but mainly posting on ttc. I have not had AF in three months. After seeing my ob/gyn who told me it was "normal" to skip a period, I decided to change doctors and am glad I did. I saw a new dr. yesterday. She is almost postive I have PCOS... she did an internal sonogram and my ovaries are full of cysts. She took some blood to confirm the diagnosis and I go back in two weeks to go over the results with her. If they are consistent with PCOS she told me she will start me on Metoformn.. I was pretty upset after my app't because I felt like I am defective...
I know there are many of you on this board who have PCOS.. any words of wisdom or advice? Is going on Metoformin the usual course of action?

Re: PCOS
I have PCOS and I'm on Metformin.
Only words of advise is just watch your carb intake and take your pills religiously.
I took them all the time and got a BFP on my 4th IUI cycle.
Good luck to you!

Re: PCOS
I also have PCOS and take Metformin. I have been on it for 7 months and I went off the BCP 2 months ago. Started seeing an RE and I actually ovulated last month. This cycle they started me on Clomid. So far it looks like I should be ovulating again this month. Good Luck.

Re: PCOS
I have PCOS along with blocked tubes, so I have more than the regular problem. I can tell you that women with PCOS respond very well to IF drugs and it's one of the easiest IF related problems to treat.

Re: PCOS
I have PCOS too. I wish I had known about this board while I was battling it. I was also sent to a dietician that specialized in PCOS. One thing I learned in the battle is to tell the doctor EVERYTHING, no matter how insignificant you think it is.
I was put on Metformin and was not responding to it. They would've just kept me on it for longer had I not spoken up. One little thing I said made them change course and found out that PCOS was not the only thing I had. They began treating my other problem and things got much better!!!!! SO, always speak up and ask questions!

Not sure where you're located, but she's in the Patchogue office of Dr. Wexler/Dr. Lengyel. 758-5858 Some insurance needs a referral, so check on that!!
I can tell you that it was mainly the South Beach Diet, with some modifications. At first, I was put on 1200 calories per day South Beach only!! But everybody is different.

Re: PCOS
I have PCOS and so far the Met. has helped me ovulate. If the met doesn't work your dr. can add clomid to make you ovulate. Good luck!
