crying at strangers

The past month my 5 month old would cry if someone he didn't know picked him up like my cousin or people I use to work with. My friend Joanne (WOODIAM) bent down to say Hi to my DS and he almost starteed to cry. Is this normal? Could it be cause he is teething or because he is always with me since I am a SAHM? We do get out alot and go to stores and we are always at my parent shouse.

Re: crying at strangers

My 7 month old DD cries a lot with strangers and people she hasn't seen in over a week. I think they'll just outgrow it. They must feel intimidated.

Re: crying at strangers

Could be stranger anxiety. It starts as young as 3 months.

Re: crying at strangers

My niece has had this on and off since about that time, she is now 11 months. She will start crying if someone she doesnt completely recongnize even talks to her, including some family members (some aunts, uncles and cousins included) Her mom is a SAHM but she is left with sitters sometimes and still reacts that way.

My friends son still has it at around 18 months, his mom is not a SAHM but he is only with family so he only seems to go to family.

Re: crying at strangers

My DD at 4 1/2 months has complete stranger anxiety. Its amazing she does so well with the girls at the Y since she cries for everyone else she doesn't know. Even if they are just talking to her and I am holding her. Its really weird.

Re: crying at strangers

I had to bump this post because I am going through the same thing with DS.
I am a SAHM and even when I visit my parents he just looks at them.
I don't know what to do.
Should I start leaving him for a bit with my parents?
I feel so bad.
He is also teething and crying right now as I type. UUggghh..
Any more advice?

My Ds does the same with strangers. I figure eventually he'll outgrow it. We do socialize him with other people.

Re: crying at strangers

My dd started that at 3 months and with people she knew like my sister, then it passed and around 6/7 mths she got it back again but this time only with certain guys...she is very perceptiveChat Icon . I wouldnt worry about it, my DD is 15mths now and very sociable and never cries at strangers. Its all part of his development so a natural milestone.Chat Icon
