Psychotic episode w/ student today
It was the scariest moment of my life.
He refused to go inside after being told he was being writen up for behavior.
3 teachers tried reasoning with him and it finaly took my female principal and female secuirty guard to basically drag him inside
He was rambling incoherently and physically trying to push them around- they finally got him into an empty classroom and physically restrained him until the cops and mental health prof.'s came. They were going to put him in a straight jacket and everything! He finally calmed down and Dad came - the police drove them to the psych ward at the local hospital.
I came home and went straight to sleep - I was emotionally drained but luckily not physically hurt. I dont think he will be back the rest of the year- its a shame cause this was a single incident and he's so bright But Ive never seen a 4th grader push and shove two grown adults like that though... I wish they would prepare you for moments like these when you go to college!

Do you work with special ed. students, or was this just a "typical" kid?
Really scary...I know it must have been a tough day. Sending you !

I work with hearing impaired students and the one that I work closely with has a rage disorder and has attacked me and several other teachers...and just last week another student...its always unprovoked behavior..and when we have to restrain extremely scary, so i totally understand

Nah...he's a "regular" student ...has had anger issues in the past- tried to punch a pregnant teacher in the stomach last year....why he was still in school I'll never know!

a "rage" disorder? do you mean he is ED? I've been working with students with special needs for over ten years now, and I've never heard it refered to as a "rage disorder" before...

There is a psychiatric diagnosis called Intermittent Explosive Disorder, which is characterized by outbursts of rage and aggression. I have heard it referred to as "rage disorder." This may be what Nicole was referring to?
