First Dr's appointment--

What should I expect?
Should DH come along with me?
I'll be at 6 weeks at that time.

Great question. I'll be 6 weeks this coming Thursday and my first doctors appointment is also Thursday. I will keep you updated.
Oh and DH can't make it. He started a new job.

I've been seeing my RE but this Wed. is my first appointment back with my regular OBGYN. I'm 8 wks pregnant today.

My DH is coming with me because we both want to hear what the doctor has to say and we both want to see the sono and hear the heartbeat.

My first appointment was at 6 1/2 weeks. The doctor took blood and did an internal exam. Then he met with me and DH and went over any questions I had and told me what I shouldn't eat (raw fish and meat) and what I shouldn't do (run). DH came, but it wasn't necessary. He didn't do anything, and he didn't see much. I had already had genetic testing done, so there were no major issues about DH's family background.

I would ask your doctor's office what they will do. Some doctors will do a sonogram. If that's the case, I would ask the office what they plan on doing. If its a sonogram, DH should be there (we had ours today! So exciting!!). If not, and they don't need DH's medical history, then I think he can skip it.

My 1st apt... They took a urine sample, and asked a bunch of questions about me n Dh medical background...

They gave me a lab slip, and an EDD..

I also had a sono done, and we got to see the heartbeat... I was 8 weeks 1 day my first apt.

DH did come with me, and Im so glad he did...everything was so amazing..however if your DH cant make it..its not a big deal!

you'll have bloodwork done and a sono (an internal one!) to date the growth of your baby! Hopefully you'll see and hear the heartbeat too!!!

My first visit DH didn't come. I was also very early I was only 5 weeks. They did a internal, urine and questions. I'm now 18 weeks and DH come to every appointment now.

Congrats!!! I would bring Dh @ my 6 week appointment we were able to see and hear the heartbeat which was just amazing for both of us. Plus the OB sat down with us and answered any questions.
This is what we could see at that point.... Which in our opinion was downright amazing!

Just warn Dh if they are doing an internal sono because that freaked Dh out a bit until he saw the picture and then he was like

Lol, my husband was also freaked out by the internal sonogram, lol. He was like "okay, I never want to see that again." But if they do a sonogram it'll probably be the most exciting sono you'll ever have in your life. I know it was for me. Maybe you should call your dr's office and ask if a sono will be part of it? If not it's mostly blood work and the doc asking you questions but I know they had to take a lot of family history on my side and my husbands for my first visit so reguardless, I'm glad that he was there.

If you can bring your hubby please do. My first appt was 5 weeks 6days and we got to see and hear the heartbeat. It was very low and doc said it must have just started to beat in the last day or two. I will never forget the look on my husbands face when he heard it and saw it.

I went for my first dr.'s appointment at 7 weeks and DH got stuck at work. I wish he could have made it. I would recommed you bring your husband if he can make it. It is so nice to see the babay and hear the heartbeat.

Call and find out what your dr does at the first visit bc everyone is different. At my first visit my doctor, didn't do a sono, bloodwork, etc.... We basically did a urine test, family history, and do's/don'ts.

I didn't question it until I read so many ladies here had sono so early. So later in my pg, I asked her why she didnt do any of that stuff and she told me that she doesn't do them unless a women has had a history of problems TTC.
