Chewing on paw pads

My dog sometimes chews on the pads of her feet, which leaves a sore (poor pup then limps and tries to hold her paw up). I clean it and put the doggie liquid bandage on it so it doesn't get infected, but why does she do that? Could it be hot spots, or just itchiness? Anyone elses dogs do this?

It could be allergies, or it could even be just a behavioural issue. I'd talk to your vet about it. Chat Icon

Re: Chewing on paw pads

Molly does this when she is frustrated. I talked to the vet about it and they basically said it was how she takes out her frustration. When she does this I try to distract her --- make her get a toy, bring her outside in the backyard, anything to get her thinking about something else.

If for some reason those things don't work I basically just stalk her until she stops. I feel so bad when she's doing it!

And last night I found a new thing that she's doing, she's licking in between her middle "toes" so much that it's a little raw and there is fur missing. Ugh, I'll talk to the vet about that too. Poor girl.

I would definitely call the vet.
