Have DH drink lots of soup.

That's one that we heard and worked!! DH loves soup and his mom makes it for him every night. Everyone predicted we were gonna have a girl!

My OB told me that unless you wanted to pay to have your DH's sperm separated, you can't do anything to guarantee one gender over another.

Re: To have a Girl

Never heard of the soup theory..
just try not to have his "deposit" to close to your ovulation, like a day or 2 in advance. The boys swim faster, but the girls live longer. Chat Icon Good luck!!!

..and even then it's no guarantee. I know someone that had 2 boys. They wanted a girl and paid a TON of money for the sperm to be separated. Nine months later, they had a boy. She was NOT happy.

I used WebMd's "Try for a Girl" ovulation calendar. It worked for me but then again it is a 50/50 chance.

I had a rough idea of when my ovulation would be so we started BDing before that date. Once I got my postive OPK we only BD'd that night, never after and we got a girl. I guess it could be coincidence. We'll see next time when we try for a boy. I plan to not BD at all before ovulation only after.

Re: To have a Girl

There is NO WAY to conceive one versus another. It is a 50/50 chance. And my DH's cousin tried TWICE to conceive a boy with the ovulation theory and guess what? Two girls.

And people that are upset and disappointed with the outcome really annoy me, I'm sorry. Some people pray for just a healthy baby...to be disappointed or mad that you get the opposite is sick to me...

i don't think people are disappointed with the outcomes i think they love their children with all their heart.. personally, i have 3 boys and would LOVE to have a little girl.. if i don't i will love 4 boys just as much.. there's nothing wrong with wanting to experience raising both a boy and a girl in your lifetime. i am sure that a healthy baby is what is most important for EVERYONE ttc!

I "think" she was responding to summerluvvs post not the OP but I could be wrong but that is who I was referring to. When she stated that after the family spent the money to have the gender seperated they had the sex that was "unwanted" they were mad. I just think thats wrong. How horrible is that. I understand $$ was involved but its cruel to think that people would be mad after a baby is born.

The ovulation predictator does have merit.

It's based on the scientific fact that Y chromosome sperm swim faster & don't last as long (to remember that just think live fast/die hard as a guy's theory).

However, it all depends on your DH. If he doesn't create as many X chromosome sperm, you're having a boy.

Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. But everyone ovulates at different times. I did right in the middle of my cycle (which is most common, I think)

I second this-TCOYF tells you when to BD to increase the likelihood of a gender. Though off course it's no guarantee.

We wanted a healthy baby and would love a boy or girl, but wanted to test this theory out. For us, it "worked" and we are having a girl. But, it could have been a coincidence.

Re: To have a Girl

I should have clarified, I'm sorry...I was responding to summerluvs post re: the couple who weren't happy with the outcome...

I do understand its completely natural to really want a baby girl or a baby boy, after having another gender previously...I mean we are all human.

But I don't understand people who don't get over the initial dissapointment and realize how lucky they are to have a child, a healthy child at that, thats all.

My friend sulked and sulked after learning she was having a second boy...all I could think of was the people going through infertility who would be thrilled either way. Just makes me sad. I wasn't commenting on the OP at all.
