Does anyone but me think that BCP had something to do with your fertility issues?

I'm looking back and starting to think that maybe taking BCP effected my body and it's decision not to ovulate. I had only taken BCP for about 2 years but looking back, I noticed some changes. It would make sense that since BCP stops you from ovulating that the body just stops doing it with or without pills. Does anyone know if any studies have been done on the possible correlation between BCP and infertility?

I never took BCP to not get pregnant so I could be wrong...but I thought BCP didn't make you stop ovulating?

You might be right but I was under the impression that BCP stopped your body from releasing an egg thereby not ovulating. I don't really know enough about how BCP really work and what it does to your body. I was just wondering if any else thought that it might have effected them negatively.

This is what I found on the web:

Birth control pills fool the body into acting as if it's pregnant. Birth control pills, also called oral contraceptives (OCs), come in two forms: the combined OC, a combination of two synthetic hormones, estrogen and progestin; and, the minipill, which consists solely of progestin. Combined OCs are more commonly used, though both kinds are available through health care providers. The combination pill prevents ovulation by suppressing the natural hormones in the body that would stimulate the ovary to release an egg. By taking this estrogen throughout the month, you insure that no egg will be developed or released for that cycle. Progestin thickens the cervical mucus, hindering the movement of sperm. Progestin also prevents the uterus's lining from developing normally; so, if an egg were fertilized, implantation is unlikely.

How Does It Work?
Most birth control pills are "combination pills" containing a combination of the hormones estrogen and progesterone to prevent ovulation (the release of an egg during the monthly cycle). A woman cannot get pregnant if she doesn't ovulate because there is no egg to be fertilized. The Pill also works by thickening the mucus around the cervix, which makes it difficult for sperm to enter the uterus and reach any eggs that may have been released. The hormones in the Pill can also sometimes affect the lining of the uterus, making it difficult for an egg to attach to the wall of the uterus.

I was on BCP for 10 years and always thought that was the reason why I can't get pregnant. My doctor swears it isn't true, and there are lots of girls that get PG the first cycle they go off BCP. I AM ovulating now but I have very regular cycles (just like while on BCP) so I feel like my body is just still messed up.

Hi Ladies,

I was just browsing through posts and saw yours. Sorry to invade your board, but i wanted to let you ladies know, i was on BCP for 10 years, went off them right after my wedding and got pregnant within a month, so don't get yourself worried that you cant ovulate anymore because of the pills. Keep the faith, I hope it happens for you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck and God Bless ladies.

I have never taken bcp. However, I find, that women who took Depo Provera injections have had such tough times ttc. The more I learn about that form of birth control, the more upset I get.

BCPs, alter your body chemistry. Some people react very well and their body gets right back to where it should be, and others, don't.
