Catholic High Schools

I have an interview Tuesday with a Catholic high school. With the exception of some fabulous really close districts, this is my dream job. Can anyone give me any pointers on interviews with Catholic schools? I imagine some things might be slightly different than interviews with public schools. Also, does anyone know exactly how much they pay? I have heard anywhere from 21,000 to 35,000... that's kind of a big stretch when you are as strapped for $ as we are!!

The questions should be pretty much the same as a public school interview. As for pay it depends on what schoolit is. The diocese schools pay less than the private ones like St. Anthony's and Chaminade. Chaminade is the best paying Catholic school out there.

It's a social studies position at the Academy of Saint Joseph. Any idea of the pay at this one?

I recently had an interview at a catholic school. They did ask me why I wanted a catholic school and I said there was a certain sense of community, I talked about the celebration of holidays and the masses and all of the things that set it apart from a public school. I got offered the job, so i guess they liked my answer.

In terms of the pay it wasn't terrible, this school was offereing in the low 40's with BA 15.

This is run by the same Josephite order of nuns that runs Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead.

I don't know the current pay scales but they should be in line with the diocesan schools.

BTW: Chaminade can pay more because they have a multi-million dollar endowment like private colleges.

The brothers are all trained in some sort of skill that allws them to do much of the physical plant repair/maintenance themselves (during the summers) and not have to spend millions on contractors to take care of the building.

It's also been proven that men give more money back to their alma maters than women do. That's what we always saw when I was at SHA.

They will definitley ask you why you would want to work in a catholic school...play up the faith aspect & family orientation.

I can only speak for the grammar schools....I'm making less than 40k & I've been teaching for 5 years in Queens, Brooklyn diocese, which is actually a bit higher than LI (I have my masters)....HOWEVER, I believe the HS's are a bit higher paying.
