Packing Tips for 2wks in Europe???

I'm going to UK, France, and Italy....bringing a smaller bag than I feel comfortable with but since all the schleping I was advised to make it work. So what are the must brings? I am going to have to wear clothes more than once...but what are things not to forget???

THANKS!!!

first of all can you bring me?? Chat Icon Chat Icon

seriously, I would pack a few outfits that could interchange with each other. a pair of black pants, tan (maybe chinos) a basic skirt (most cathedrals you can not go in with shorts or a short skirt. One pair of jeans, a sweater for night time.

I went for 2 weeks to Europe and I washed underwear at night and by the morning they were dry.

I agree with the interchangeable clothes...I would also try to keep to one color scheme (to limit multiple shoes).

I'm a big fan of not bringing toiletries and buying them once I get there. That often makes your bag lighter.

Comfortable walking shoes...there is so much walking there and from what I remember a lot of cobblestone streets.

just a tip : dont wear jeans or sneakers!!!!

Those are 2 totally American clothes that tip of Europeans that you are a tourist and also makes you a target for pickpockets and scammers

(this is very true- I went to Paris and Rome when I was 16 and stupidly wore jeans and my Rangers jersey and I had gypsies following me everywhere- very scary!)

Wow, I am bringing jeans but thought that in london and possibly Paris where it is chillier I may wear them and/or night. I shouldnt? When it's warmer I have capris/skirts.

I heard the same thing prob. 10 years ago...but when I was in Italy in 2005, the majority of the Italians wore jeans. I think what makes an Americans stick out in Italy is cheap shoes and cheap sunglasses. Even though the Italians were wearing jeans, they looked amazing, as if everything was tailored to fit perfectly, and of course those expensive accessories they all had!

Good luck, and remember that Italy is very hot in the summer, so bring light clothing, and don't overpack..you can always have your laundry done in the hotel.

I recently went to Paris, London, and Dublin and heard this also. I am sorry, but I wore jeans anyway. We did so much walking that if I did not wear sneakers I would have been in agony! Also, you will see a ton of people wearing jeans and sneakers. There are always a ton of tourists in cities. Just be smart with your money and bag and pickpockets won't be a problem. Of couse when we went to fancy restaurants or shows I wore nice dressy clothes, but for the most part and esp. for site-seeing, I wore nice looking jeans and clean looking sneakers.

Totally disagree with this. Everybody wears Jeans and Sneakers across Europe. Wear clothes that make you feel comfortable, but leave home all your American Flag clothes, bandannas, flags etc. Don't worry too much about your bags, just act smartly like you would at home. Avoid suspicious people, just like you would at home. Jeans and sneakers are worn all over Europe.

Have a good time!!!

Pack light! If you don't need it, don't bring it - if you're traveling around Europe, you'll be dragging your suitcase through train stations, up and down stairs, down streets... it's really annoying if you overpack.

I've lived in Europe (in London and in Spain), and they dress pretty much like people do in Manhattan. A little 'smarter' than your average Middle-America tourist, but that certainly includes bluejeans and sneakers (but not athletic shoes; more like brown or black Steve Madden sneakers). I'd bring a pair of sneaks, and maybe two pairs of sandals (that would work well with casual outfits and with nicer dresses for dinner/shows). Two pairs of jeans, two skirts that go with all your tops, and mix and match when you get there. Maybe a sundress that you can wear twice without washing. Limit the toiletries (remember, stuff like shampoo is heavy and cheap - you can buy it there).

Have fun!

COMFY shoes. Seriously, make sure you LOVE them. Youre gonna do lots of walking.

Rain gear also!!
Swingbag. (use something that wraps across your body so your arms are free but is facing IN so you cant get pic-pocketed!!

HAVE A BLAST!!!!
