Re: Newport RI
I went there last September for a mini-HM after our wedding and we're going back there this September.
First trip - we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express
Next trip- Staying at a B&B
Visited the mansions, ate at various seafood restaurants in town. Great area, beautiful weather!

Re: Newport RI
Hi Kris!
It takes about 3 1/2 hrs - 4 hrs to get to Newport from LI (I used to live in Syosset).
I posted this on another thread....
As far as restaurants, we like: Aidan's - it's an Irish Pub. It's really authentic and cute. Red Parrot, The Landing, Black Pearl, and Brick Alley Pub are off of Thames street. Lucia Italian Restaurant, also off of Thames Street was ok. It's a little bit more of a romantic setting inside.
Atlantic Beach Club, a restaurant on the beach, is also fun. In the summer, they have a band and there's a bar outside.
Thames street has a strip of stores/boutiques like Banana Republic. There's another shopping area, right across the street, with The Gap and Pier one.
Bars/clubs... Newport Blues Cafe lounge is on Thames street. Rhino Bar is a little cheezy, but fun. It's across the street from the Blues cafe. It's sort of by itself in a corner.
Have fun! Newport is a great place.

Re: Newport RI
Did lots of research today and all the hotels and bed n breakfasts are all booked up the weekend we are looking to go. Has anyone ever stayed at the Courtyard Marriot? It's located 3 miles from Newport this seems to be the only hotel available

When are you going?
ETA: I ask b/c the weekend we're going in September, we found that a few hotels were sold out for some reason and we have no idea why.

We're going in Sept. for my cousin's wedding at one of the mansions and hotels were booked up 8 months ago! I think it's a really popular time for destination weddings there--my cousin has over 50 rooms booked for her wedding alone.

She getting married at Rosecliff? We were there last year on a tour and they were setting up for a wedding at that time.
I'll be there Sept 14-16

I think it's ok. I know where it is..dh and his friends lived nearby it in college...it's off a pretty busy road and not much to do in that area..
If you are going to be a good driving distance from Newport, I would totally recommend the Bristol Harbor Inn in Bristol..it's probably a 20 minute drive to Newport, but really cute, brand new hotel..on the water and located in a cute town..

All are affordable. Black Pearl is probably the pricest of them all..
