ok girls..if you were given $300 to spend on supplies..what would you get?

I am taking a maternity leave for a basic skills math teacher grades 1-5. I am not teaching a classroom and will probably be working with 2-3 students at a time...very similar to special ed, but the kids aren't classified..they just need some extra help..It's my first year and I need EVERYTHING. What would you order?

for math, lots of manipulatives - dice, coins, bingo-like chips, etc.

Can you pilfer, I mean borrow from the classroom teachers for some manipulatives as needed?

*Clocks
*Unifix Cubes
*Base Ten Set
*PatternBlocks/Tangrams


ETA: There are some things Id make myself: flash cards, bingo cards, worksheets, folder games, etc.

Also, there are tons of free or minimally priced websites that can help you with your instruction as well. Worksheets, activities, print out flash cards/manipulatives!!

go to the dollar tree and you can get tons of manipulatives - cards, dice, poker chips, counters and I'm sure a ton of other things that I can't think of now.

Before you go too crazy, i would talk to someone at the school. . . .perhaps someone on the grade level, the resource room teacher, etc. I am sure the teacher on leave is leaving her supplies in her room... i would think you could borrow them.

The school should have math manipulatives, etc. etc. so you shouldn't have to get those or at least not that many. also, the kids are part of a general ed. classroom so they will have supplies like their folders and notebooks.

I would inquire what is available to you... then, i would get things that you can use in the future (games, reproducibles, etc.) I like scholastic.com and trendenterprises.com they have great teacher resources and games.

like the others said, i would get anything hands on manipulatives, coins money etc.....definitely some dry erase boards too.....good luck!

a cheap tv w/ vcr or dvd attachement.
