Obviously everyone recovers differenly. This is just my experience. I just had a large fibroid removed on June 5th of this year. My recovery was very quick. The dr couldn't even believe it. I was in the hospital 3 days and within a week of being home I felt like myself. Barely any pain. I could have gone back to work after 10 days but the dr wanted me out for 4-6 weeks so I went back to work after 4.
Who is doing the surgery?

I also went to North Shore. Dr Chu did my surgery. Both the dr and hospital were great.
If you have any questions you can FM me.
Good Luck!

Re: Anyone ever have fibroids and cysts removed?
I had a myomectomy and they removed 7 or 8 fibroids (each the size of an orange). At 4 weeks, I felt completely fine. At 2 weeks, I did feel okay but not a 100%. I was driving though. Just remember that although you are feeling fine, your insides are still healing so you still have to take it easy. My doctor told me 6 weeks for recovery.
The toughest part was the first week. If you sleep on your back now, then you'll be fine. For me, I sleep on my side and it was horrible. I had to sleep with a heavy pillow ontop to relieve the pain. TMI: The Gas and the constipation was the worst part of the whole experience. I wanted to cry b/c I never experienced such intense pain. Im not talking about the pushing part ...IM talking about the gas that is build up and not being able to release. Also, don't talk to any funny people bc laughing will Hurt! LOL
Good Luck with your surgery! Do you know how many you have and the location?

Re: Anyone ever have fibroids and cysts removed?
Yeah I have 2 grapefruits growing thru my uterus, and a cyst on each ovary! UGH! I heard about the gas thing, I am soooo nervous. This is my 1st BIg surgery and never had to stay in hospital overnight. My Dr told me I will be in 3-4 days.. The first few days you are drugged up right, and you were still uncomfy?

I just had laporoscopy which is much milder, but as fas as the gas I think you can take gas-x. Also the day you get hopme start drinking metamucil-it makes it SO much easier to go.

Re: Anyone ever have fibroids and cysts removed?
Everyone heals differently and everyone's surgery is entirely different. Mine started as a laparoscopy and there were complications that caused it to be converted to a bikini line incision. Healing was very slow but it was mostly from one of the laparoscopy scars b/c they had done a lot to try to prevent the conversion. I had been given the choice to try laparoscopy knowing that it may be converted . I should have gone right to open surgery, but I was too afraid. My surgeon was great in spite of some unexpected bumps in the road.

Re: Anyone ever have fibroids and cysts removed?
I had a dermoid cyst removed in 1999. I remember the recovery sucked for about 2 weeks, but I was feelingmuch better after that.
You can't even see my scar now, although it still feels a little numb around the incision site.

Re: Anyone ever have fibroids and cysts removed?
I'm sure you will be just fine. I had a laparoscopy in NSUH by Dr. Rosenfeld. That was by first and only big surgery too. The only thing that's a PITA is that you can only sleep on your back for a few weeks. As someone else mentioned above, the whole gas thing is annoying. You will feel bloated for a week or two. Everything will pass (LOL) I didn't stay in the hospital, but they will take good care of you!
