How old is Cailen????
Heres the thing. He was born Apr 4, so that means by the calendar he doesn't turn 5 mts until Sept. 4
However, with the way the weeks worked out, he is going on 22 weeks, so really at this point he is the equivalent of 5 and a half months old. By the time Sept 4 rolls around, he will be almost 6 mts!!!
So, when people ask me how old he is, I feel I should say weeks, but I dont like saying his age in wks. But if I say 5 and a half months, it sounds weird because on the calendar it doesnt match up....
I know I can have worse problems in my life, but it bothers me for some reason - what do I say when someone asks me how old he is? Sometimes I try and explain it, but the person in the supermarket isnt asking for his life story when they ask awww - cute... how old?

He is 5 months old...you wouldn't say he is 1 before his actual birthday would you?

Re: How old is Cailen????
This drives me nuts! My SIL goes by weeks and her DD is exactly 2 months older by the calender. I go by the calender date so its really frustrating. We will be out and people will ask how old they are- my SIL will say 10 1/2 months and 8 months for our DD and I will correct it since I don't want my DD any older than she already is. Its a huge pet peeve of mine

I want to go by the calendar at this point because it gets confusing, and I was actually thinking of his bday - he'll be one before he is one...
But then I think in terms of his development, should I be looking at weeks?
Oh well, it will all work itself out in the wash - by the time he is 20, it will all even out....

Re: How old is Cailen????
Development you look at weeks.
For those unable to do division, I would go by calendar months (turning 5 months on Sept 4)

How does it work when your child is born on the 31st of a month. Say your child is born on August 31st for example when would they be considered a month old? On September 30th or october 1st?

Re: How old is Cailen????
I didn't say Christopher was 4 months old until today...I gave birth on April 25th and it is now August 25th.
By weeks, he was 16 weeks old (if you go by 4 weeks per month) like almost 2 weeks ago.
I just say the month until he turns the next one. As someone else said, you wouldn't say he was 1 when he was 11 months old, right?

Re: How old is Cailen????
Since every month isn't 4 weeks, it won't always work out with the weeks and the months being the same thing. 16 weeks isn't technically 4 months...it's 16 weeks.
So, I think you can just say whatever you're comfortable saying!
Lily will be 12 weeks on Tuesday....but won't be 3 months until Wednesday. When someone asks how old she is, I say just about 3 months.

Re: How old is Cailen????
How about if someone asks how old he is, I just say "Mind your own business, a**hole?"
Would that work?
(silly mood today)

Re: How old is Cailen????
I go by weeks, so that means DD will actually be 12 weeks before she is 3 months, but I will tell people at that point that she is 3 months.

I used to go by weeks when she was itty bitty. Now I just say it in months (i.e...she's almost 5 mos, wow time flew!)

I was wondering the same thing
Didn't know if you should count weeks like you did during pregnancy or months...
I guess I'll go by months now..

OH ok...I was asking because my son was born on a day that's the 31st. It's something I was just curious about...

Re: How old is Cailen????
That's because on average there are 4.333333 weeks per month.
So you cannot say a 12 week old baby is 3 months. It's not exactly the same.
I think you use the weeks until they are 3 months then you use months.
I use both. DS was 2 months 2 days before he turned 9 weeks.

Re: How old is Cailen????
Months are more than 4 weeks, so 20 weeks does not equal 5 months in my opinion. A yr is 52 weeks divided by 12 months = 4.33 weeks per month.

At work when I create budgets for people, I calculate a month as being 4.3 weeks.
I go by weeks with my pregnancy and I was hoping that the confusion would end when the baby gets here!!!!!

this is giving me a headache!
for strangers who don't know me, i usually round up to the nearest month based on his weeks. so at 11 weeks i would say "he's about 3 months". all they hear is the 3 mos. anyway. lucas turns 13 weeks tomorrow and based on the date, 3 mos on wed. i could care less.....but it does enter my head and confuse me at times. so you're defintely not alone in this mental dilema!

Re: How old is Cailen????
I had the exact same problem this weekend, since we saw some family that never met Taylor. I started saying she was 6 months old b/c she is 24 weeks, but then I started getting "challenged" by a few people that said since she was born on March 7th, she isnt 6 months old yet...etc.
So, I just changed it and said she was almost 6 months old
