12 Week Sono - Ultra Screen

This is my 2nd pregnancy but 4 years ago they did not have a 12 week sono, just a blood test. What should I expect? Is the sono internal? Can they determine the gender?

I had a external sono and bloodwork. It wasn't a big deal. With mine they didn't even try to determine gender but I think another girl on here said they could with hers.

Mine was both internal and external. We don't want to know gender so I didn't ask, although from the girls on here I would say at 12 weeks if the tech says boy or girl you better double check at the Level II.

I just had mine at 13 weeks and it was an external. I had to have a full bladder. They weren't able to see the gender although I got some great pics.

mine was external and didn't find out the sex (but we aren't finding out)

Mine was internal and external. We also don't want to know gender so we didn't find out. But the doctor has knows since then what we are having.

it was external, they check the neck fold and the bridge of the nose of the baby. They also do a finger prick to test for down syndrom etc.

Mine was the same. You get great pictures and the baby actually looks like a baby compared to my 7 week picture!

I did not have to have a full bladder, infact they had me do a unrin sample prior anyway, so I know mine was empty.

Hi, Mine was external, empty bladder. LOTS of pix- they measure the fold @ the back of the neck, take a few drops of blood from a finger stick, and my understanding is they take the #s they get from those, put them in a formula along w/ your age & come up w/ the likelihood the baby may have trisomy 13, 18 or 21. My friend has 2 babies 6 & 17 mo- she said that they didn't ven offer it w/ the 17 mo old!

I just had mine also! It was external as well as a finger prick and done at Northsore Manhasset!

It was definitely my favorite sonogram so far because we got tons of pictures of the baby!! The tech had difficulty getting the right angle of the back of the neck so they had a Dr. come in and do it as well....we got to see the baby for over 1/2 hour! I asked about the gender and they said it was too early to tell!!

Definitely my favorite as well! Had it done @ 11 weeks. We came home with 7 new pix. The best part was we got to hear the heart for the 1st time-was not expecting that-very emotional. Too early to get the gender. Good luck!
