Scratches on Face
Ugh!!! DD woke up this morning with 3 scratches on her face from her nails. I obviously hadn't noticed she had a sharp one. Do you do anything for scratches, or will they just heal on their own? She's 12 weeks and has gotten a few here and there, but these are making me so upset! I don't want her to end up with scars.
Are there any tips you moms have for filing/cutting babies' nails? I seriously would rather change 100 diapers a day than worry about fingernails & toenail trimmings. I know to try to do them when baby is sleeping, but she always flinches and wakes up.

I just let them heal, but his are always very superficial and are gone in a day or so.

Re: Scratches on Face
they go away fast. I would wait till he's asleep and prop him up on the boppy, then clip away. Now we have to take turns, he does my nails then I do his.

Re: Scratches on Face
I would leave it alone.. they'll go away quickly.
As for cutting and filing, I used to use a baby nail file but found that it barely did anything, so I bought a clean adult file and use it on DD. I have to do it every 2-3 days because her nails grow so quickly.

Re: Scratches on Face
My DD used to scratch herself up allllll the time. Her face, her shoulders, her arms... she was always itchy from her eczema. Even now, she still scratches, esp. when she's half asleep.
When she was an infant, I used to glove her. Every night. I bought the pj's with the flap mits and sometimes she wore the little mittens on top of that. It really helped with the scratches.
Don't worry, they won't scar that easily!

I've had this problem too. The scratches do heal fast! I have a much easier time cutting DS's nails with manicure scissors than I do when I attempt to use baby nail clippers. The scissors give me much more control over what I am doing.

Re: Scratches on Face
Try putting socks on the hands at night to keep from scratching the face. They stay on better than the mittens IMO. Emma is actually a dream when it comes to cutting nails. She sits still and seems to actually enjoy it and no blood has been drawn yet!

I still have to put socks on his hands. He scratches his face REALLY bad.
I don't put anything over his scratches on his face. It heals very fast.

Re: Scratches on Face
I usually put a little A&D on the scratches.
He won't keep mittens or socks on his hands, so that's out.
I try to keep his nails clipped and I use an adult file for the edges.
