Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I've always been a gym rat, and I promised myself that I would continue working out faithfully after I got pregnant. But, now I'm scared.
I'm only about 5 weeks along and I'm terrified that I am going to harm this fragile little package if I do any type of high impact aerobics class.
I have not had my first OB appt yet.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I didn't - I wasn't feeling well at all.
ETA: I did try to get out for walks as often as possible to both get fresh air and to try to keep my body moving at least a little bit.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
Talk to your Dr, but she had told me that as long as I did not have any cramping or bleeding it was OK to do a modified workout. Unfortunately I had both, so I stopped working out at around 6 weeks.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I was working out, it was actually my trainer who figured out I was pregnant. I had no clue.
We of course took it down a notch, lifted lighter weights, walking instead of running.
I have been working out less about 3 -4 times a week, because I have been really tired.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
Thanks ladies. I actually do have some cramping which is what makes me nervous about working out.
Perhaps I will start walking on the treadmill once I feel better.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I did. I dont know if I'd do high impact aerobics, you need to keep your heartrate below 130 (I think thats the number), I did the eliptical or walked on the treadmill (it was summer & you have to be careful about overheating) or swam & did weights. Be really diligent about stretching because your ligaments get really lax really early- and you will probably feel out of breath really easily. Definitely get an ok from the ob

You know I was cramping too, but thought it was my friend coming, it wasn't.
I have heard that or people have told me that is your body making room for the little one. I don't know if that is true, but it makes sense in a way.

I've heard the same thing about the cramping. I asked my dr about it and he said that it was normal.
I guess that's why I'm nervous. If the cramping = implantation then maybe I should not be shaking things up in there. I'm probably crazy.

I did until MS kicked in at 6 weeks. Then I started back up again at 12.5 weeks when I felt better.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
High impact might be a bit too much. I kept on swimming, but that's much different. At least go for brisk walks or do low impact aerobics until you can talk with your doctor.

I had every intention but was so sick from 5 1/2 to 18 weeks plus bleeding that it just wasn't possible. I miss it so much!

Talk to your doctor but low impact aerobics should be fine. I personally have not felt well eniugh to do much. Don't feel bad we are all crazy, it's one of the joys of pregnancy.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I worked out a lot before I was pregnant too, but the 1st trimester floored me. I did get in some workouts, but for the most part, I stopped doing much of anything then. Too exhausted.
Ask your doctor before continuing with a high impact class. You can definitely do low impact aerobics of some kind, and lift very light weights as long as you don't have complications. You need to make sure your heart rate stays down though--I think the recommendation is that it not go above 140, but definitely check on that.
Hope you can keep it up!

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I did up until I hit 6 weeks then M/S hit me like a brick wall and I didn't work out until like week 12. I did not have any energy to even work much rather work out. I have gone back to going a few times a week since then.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I did alittle (alittle b/c I was lazy!) but my Dr. said it was OK to do lower impact like the eliptical machine, some weights. I wanted to run but he said try to stay away from running even though I was a big runner before...I was thinking its just not worth the risk since running kinda puts a lot stress on your body.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I am still working out - I'm almost 6 weeks now. I belong to Aspen - it's like Curves. I do the elliptical, then I do the circuit - the only machine I skip is the ab machine. So far, so good. I've been able to make myself go 3 times a week even though I'm tired.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
No- I just started yesterday- today I am officially in trimester #2. I wa sout of shape before getting pg, so I was extra nervous about the strain on my body. Plus when you're out of shape, 140 BPM is hard to keep. LOL. So now it's light machine work on my tubby legs, and the treadmill. Hopefully pre natal yoga, too.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I tried, but I was too tired and nauseous. Now that I'm in the 2nd trimester, I've been better about exercising, but still nowhere near to pre-preggo level.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I was until 6weeks, then I started spotting and they found I had hematoma, so I could not do anything strenuous or aerobics. Around 10w they aloud me to start walking and slowly progress seeing how I felt. Now I am 14+w and walking and lifting weights and all is fine!

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I continued my regular workouts until a week before I delivered my son. I wore a heart monitor and just watched my heart rate is all. You should be fine, especially if you have been working out for a long time.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
I continued to work out but after a pilates class around the 7 week mark i had bright red spotting. after that i took it easy until around week 13 at which point i resumed a pretty regular work out routine. i did tone it down though - not much abs work (obviously!), no running, nothing high impact. I take mostly body conditioning classes and i only use light weights. I also wear a heart monitor and try to keep my heart rate down. Just be careful, you dont want to over do it.

Re: Did anyone work out during their first trimester?
i couldn't and still can't due to a physical illness. I walked in the 3rd trimester with my daughter and when I feel good I will start walking with this pregnancy.
