Has anyone had abdominal fibroid surgery?
After trying to conceive for a long time , I conceived for the very first time in march 07' and suffered a painful miscarried in may 07'. my dr informed me of the large fibroid that is standing in the way of me conceiving and may cause repeated miscarriages when i conceive again. he recommends that I have the fibroid removed by an abdominal c section kind of cut because of the size of the fibroid. in the past few years i had three myomectomys( vaginally) but could not reach the fibroid in my uterine wall, i want to be done with this once and for all!!!!! but i want to hear from someone who had the surgery before, and how theyre recovery and out come turned out! I just want to hear some of your personal experiences with this good or bad.

Re: Has anyone had abdominal fibroid surgery?
oo im very sorry. ive never had this, but is the procedure you are talking about like a c-section? if the recovery is the same as a c-section its not that bad. you are sore, cant move great but they make you get up and move. you are sore for a few days. i wish you luck

Re: Has anyone had abdominal fibroid surgery?
I did. I had a difficult recovery but that was really because my surgery was converted at the last minute from laparoscopy to abdominal myomectomy. I now believe that I should have opted for an abdominal surgery from the start. It was my request to try for a lap. I now think that an abdominal myo is the only way to really "get" the suckers!!!!
I was not ready for children yet at the time of my surgery. I had it done because of bad symptoms. But now, almost 4 years later, I am about to have a baby. My pregnancy has not been complicated by my history of having fibroids other than the fact that I need to have an early C-section to avoid going into labor b/c going into labor isn't considered entirely safe after an extensive myo. I believe that if I got pregnant before my surgery, it would not have gone very smoothly. I think you would have a much better outcome with pregnancies if you went ahead with abdominal surgery.

Re: Has anyone had abdominal fibroid surgery?
I had my surgery in December 2006. I had been contemplating having the surgery b/c of scar tissue. But, I am glad I did get it done. They thought I had 3 fibroids but as it turned out, I had 7 (each the size of an orange). I am completely happy that I did have the surgery. NO regrets!
I am not a success story YET! Because I have other issues (such as PCOS) and the fact that I didn't have infertility insurance. But, I hoping to share my success story soon!
As for the recup time, I think it was about 6 weeks. The first week was the worst and then it gets a lot easier!! By the end of the 2nd week, you feel almost like normal. I was driving by the 2nd week.
Good Luck!
