Re: When did you tell you family?
we told our family early. Around 6w, because at the time we were high risk and we wanted them to know what was going on.

When is too early?
IMHO, "too" early is a personal decision. What might be too early for me, might be the perfect time for you.
For us, we told the mothers on Mother's Day (aka 10 weeks). Personally, I would have preferred to wait until 13 weeks to tell anyone, but how can you not tell the grandmas to be on Mother's Day??? It was just too perfect a setting not to tell.

Re: When did you tell you family?
We told our parents the day we found out b/c they already knew about our m/c in March (with that pg we planned on sharing after the first sono but that didn't go according to plan). It's def. a personal decision - there's no such thing as sharing such great news with family too early.

I'm not PG but thought I would add .02...
ITA with the AP. I think it's a personal decision that you and your DH need to make and when the two of you are ready to share this special news you will!
However, may I add that if you are only going to tell a small group of people to begin with, let them know that b/c I wound up letting the cat out of the bag with my brother and SIL's second pregnancy b/c I didn't realize that hadn't told everyone.
I felt terrible.

I agree. I completely understand the whole purpose of keeping mum until the 12 week period is over however IMO I feel as though that may be thinking negative (depending upon how you look at it). To me, it would be best to tell people early on in the pregnancy because that's already setting a positive outlook on it. Which is why we decided to start telling our loved one's now.
Like SweetCaroline said, it's never too early to share great news with family and friends.

Re: When did you tell you family?
9 weeks. We could not wait any longer, and I wanted them to know b/c there were some family functions at about about 9-10 weeks and I thought they'd figure out that I was not myself (I had bad m/s and fatigue).

Re: When did you tell you family?
With DS I was 5-6 weeks and with DD I found out Nov. 1st and told everyone Nov. 5th. They happened to all be over for our birthdays.

Re: When did you tell you family?
Go with what works for you.
We are telling our parents and the stepkids on Saturday, which is almost 8 weeks. It's killing me to wait this long but my mom's b-day is on Friday and it's the perfect present.
My doctors appointment is on 10/11. We'll be comfortable telling friends and extended family after that.

Re: When did you tell you family?
We told my mom at 7 weeks because she basically jokingly threatened me before I got PG saying "you better not be one of those people who hold out till the 2nd trimester!"
She in turn told my SIL at 9 weeks, so I felt it was only fair to tell my 2 brothers that same day. My mom swore SIL to secrecy, as if SIL really wouldn't tell my brother that his lil sis was preggers.
we were waiting till 12 wks to tell DH's family bc we found out his little sister miscarried when I was about 5-6 weeks and we were afraid of unintentionally hurting her feelings, plus it made DH really scared and he wanted to make sure we were "safe".
But as the previously posters said, whatever you are comfortable with.

We couldn't keep it a secret so we told them a week after we got our BFP, which was around 5 weeks.

We actually got our BFP on mothers day, and it killed us not to tell our families but we were soooo early (barely 4 weeks)

Re: When did you tell you family?
It is definitely a personal decision that is different for each couple. We told our immediate families at around 6 weeks, and we never really needed to tell anyone else. BIL told all the friends and my mom immediately called her sisters to brag, so it took only a few days before my cousins were leaving numerous bun in the oven comments on my myspace.
Although I told dapnkap even before the families because I already knew I was acting like a crazy person and no one would really buy my antibiotics excuse for not boozing since I tend to party a little too hard...I totally outed her! hehe Come on though, how can someone resist saying "me too!!!" when you give them that kind news?

Re: When did you tell you family?
I called my mom and my BFFs (they live in FL and NJ). My Dad is in Europe on vacation (parents divorced), so I will wait until next week when he returns. DH wants to wait until after first trimester to tell his family.

Re: When did you tell you family?
I told my parents immediately. My mother was already hinting, saying "You look so glassy-eyed.. Are you pregnant? Why are you so tired..." So we told them immediately. I was just barely 4 weeks.. We're telling the in-laws this weekend and I'll be just 7 weeks then. We had our first sono today..

Re: When did you tell you family?
I agree that it's a personal choice. I told people before 13 weeks that I would want to be there for me if something bad happened, like a miscarriage. I thought to myself that if I had a miscarriage I would need my family and close friends to help me get through. We told immediate family at 5-6 weeks and we told our best friends around 7 weeks. Everyone else we waited until the 12-13 week mark.
You have to do what's right for you and DH.
