Bring your checkbook! It's very easy to get carried away with what you want.
Think about how you'll use the stamps and start simply - select some stamps, ink and paper that work together if you don't already have a big stash of supplies to draw upon. You'll find you use them more if you have all the items you need to make some cards when your order is delivered.

Will you be crafting or just looking at the stamps?
Where I go, we're always making cards so I always bring some kind of adhesives and scissors. I usually use a mono adhesive and glue dots (can be found at Michael's, but you can buy some through stampin up as well). Last time I went I used double-sided tape and people were having full on heart attacks over it...but it worked really well!

Re: Going To My First Stampin Up Party
The demonstrator can give you an idea of what you should buy to start off. And just so you know, there are things that Stampin Up sells that you can buy at craft stores like Michael's, etc. The one thing that I don't like about SU is the amount of money they charge for shipping and handling. So I would buy mostly stamp sets and stamp pads from them as well as their markers (all great stuff) and get most of the tools and embellishments from a craft or scrapbooking store.
You could probably also buy one package of each of the color families of paper from them (there are 4 color families and the package of paper comes with an assortment of colors). Also buy the color wheel - it'll help you put color combos together which will make putting cards or scrapbook pages together easier.
