Re: Christening Traditions?
yup thats our tradition. godmother buys the outfit, godfather buys the chain with cross. and u can always get extra stuff. when i was a godmother to my nephew, i bought him an outfit, a chain a cross and a bracelet. his godfather got him a chain and cross. when i was godmother to my friends daughter, i bought the outfit and a bracelet, and the godfather bought a chain a cross and earrings. for DS, his godmother bought the outfit i chose with all the accessories, and godfather bought him a chain and cross. just asked me whats my preference white gold or gold.

I did not know this either, but yes... the godmother does buy the gown and it's new to me about the godfather! I don't think our baby's godfather knows this!

DS's godmother bought his christening outfit. The godfather did not buy him a cross.

Re: Christening Traditions?
Yes, my DD's godmother bought the dress. I also heard that it's tradition for them to dress the baby also.

Yes, I've heard of that and my sister gave me her DD's dress for Julia to wear since I loved it! She also got Julia her cross!

Re: Christening Traditions?
Thanks for your responses ladies! I don't know how this tradition escaped me. I really wanted to buy my DD the gown, but my mother in law insisted that my sister in law (her daughter and the godmother) should buy it. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't my MIL's way of trying to influence things (as she tends to do, although generally in a nice and caring way).

Re: Christening Traditions?
I've heard of that as well. However, I don't think DD's Godmother is aware of it, but it's okay since DD will be wearing my Christening gown. :)
