Restaurant Incident tonight
I do post on the boards, but have changed my name for this post. I have a 2 year old son who is typically developing but has some sensory issues. Tonight we went to dinner at a pizza/Italian restaurant. The place was fairly loud but my son was louder. We tried every trick to keep him quiet, but he was singing and let out a few screams. Right after we ordered, some guy screams tell that kid to shut the **** up. The table by them clapped. The hostess came over and apologized and we apologized for his behavior as well. We did explain he has some issues, but we felt terrible for interrupting other people's dinner. We had the waiter packed our things and we paid and left. I am feeling so sad about the whole incident. I know nobody wants to eat with a screaming child, but can't believe what happened. Thanks for listening

Do NOT be hard on yourself. That guy was extremely rude as well as the table next to him.
There needs to be more understanding people in this world. I am so sorry that happened.
ETA: YOU should not have left, the moron that yelled should have been asked to leave!

Re: Restaurant Incident tonight
I'm sorry- I can't believe what I just read in your post.
Of course people prefer to have a quiet atmosphere while eating but to curse and yell about a baby??!! What is wrong with people??
First of all - of COURSE you were TRYING to keep the baby quiet- if they were REALLY upset about it- they could come over and talk to you quietly and say they were really bothered by the noise.
We leave if Matty gets too noisy, but if someone cursed at me about him I could tell you what would happen- I would take Matty out of the restaurant and my DH would go over to the guy and ask him what his **** problem was and disturb HIS dinner right back!
EAT: I would fight the urge to throw a glass of water in his face!

How horrible. I know exactly how you feel because I was in a clothing store once shopping when one of the workers folding clothes nearby said something similar when my DD started crying in the stroller. It just makes you feel like crap, and it shouldn't!

Re: Restaurant Incident tonight
Well, first of all I am very sorry it happened to you. I can imagine how you felt! Being a mother myself, obviously, I realize how hurt you must have been.
I do however I understand the frustration of the other diners. If it was an actual restaurant, not just a Sbarro's kind of place, people are expecting a certain level of comfort and ambiance, and a child screaming non stop is certainly not part of it. When things like that happen to us one of us immediately stands up and take the child out to calm him down. If it doesn't work -- we leave! It is a simple courtesy we extend to those around us and expect from others when the situation is revered. I know it's not always the way we plan to spend the evening but that is just one of those inconveniences that come with the territory i.e. parenting.
Having said that screaming "make that kid ****** etc." was probably not the best choice of words. Perhaps he could have phrased it differently or better yet asked the manager to approach you.
Please don't get too upset over this! I am sure plenty of parents have been in this situation. I am sure your outings will get better with time as your son gets older!

I get what you are saying, but she said that the restaurant was loud and that he was singing and let out a scream or two. That isn't a screaming child in my book. He is 2, he was probably trying to be heard over the noise and that is why he was loud.

I have to agree. It didnt sound like he was crying up a storm and it doesnt sound like this restaurant was all that romantic. I cant see past a man yelling shyt that kid up and people clapping. I dont make any sense of it at all. It has no ryhme or reason for me. I couldnt defend people that acted worse then this 2 yr old.

Re: Restaurant Incident tonight
WOW!!! I feel so horrible for you, yet i might have walked over to the table and said " think you can do a better job".
People are so judmental these days, it scares me.
Im sorry this happened to you. PLEASE dont let it get you to the point, you think YOU did something wrong.
Those monsters were probably bratty kids and now look at them. Your son may be loud, but I can tell by your tone in your post, he will not turn out like those people ...

Re: Restaurant Incident tonight
I'm sorry you had to go through that. Some people are just so screwed up. However you should of stayed nobody should make you feel like you have to leave. Your family was trying to have a nice diner and as we all know with kids is sometimes harder then others. Trust me I know, my 2yr can get a little crazy at times, but as another poster said your at a family resturant and who ever goes there should know that children will be there and if they don't have the patience for it they should go eat some where else. Just don't stop trying to eat out because sometimes children have bad days but they also can have good ones too. Sorry again.
