Prizes!!!

What do you give?
How often do you give them?
Where do you get yours?

I need to go shopping this weekend for some!

I have table points for a weekly prize.
I have a secret student that earns table points but I want to give a little something.
I award the clean desk award.
Then I want to give the random "you are doing an amazing job' prize.

Re: Prizes!!!

I do prize jar....I get candy and little toys from CVS and Dollar store...they love it. I use tickets. But yesterday they were all so good I let everyone pick from it!

I want to start doing a marble jar because when they recieve whole class compliments I want to be able to reward them for that and work towards a pizza party or something to that effect

Re: Prizes!!!

I get mine from the dollar store...usually in a pack of like 6. They are usually party favor prizes....spinning tops, bouncy balls, stampers, cars, plastic jewelry - stuff like that. I give mine out for the table who fills their chart with table stars, and I have a kid on a behavior plan who if he earns a certain amount of stars each day he earns a prize. Last year I did the secret student award too.

Re: Prizes!!!

i don't tend to give prizes. i feel kids these days are constantly praised and given whatever they want. i believe that kids should do the right thing because it's the right thing to do, not because they are getting a prize. what does that teach them? i did it when i first started teaching and the kids would do the most minute things and expect a prize... that's when i ditched it.

i taught kindergarten and honestly, i didn't do a prize box or anything like that, and now that i teach 5th grade i definitely don't. i do realize that kids need to be reinforced... i tend to do that verbally and explain WHY the behavior or effort was good. i also sometimes give out a certificate for them to be proud of rather than a toy or candy. i also send notes home so the parents see how well everything is going....

that said, there are times when i see that the kids are really going above and beyond, i might do some fun things like a class treat or extra recess. i also teach special ed. so there are kids that do need reinforcement or an individual behavior chart... so there is a mutually agreed upon reward or "goal" but these kids are usually on the spectrum and need a specific behavior mod.

I also order from Oriental Trading. I order about three times a year, and get lots of stamps, pens, bracelets, toy cars and other little items.

Re: Prizes!!!

I think all children deserve rewards. I believe it does not have to be something tangible, but free time words too.

Oh and teachers work for prizes.... our pay checks. Don't kids deserve them ???
