Baby Name Poll - Rachel or Leah?
I'm a regular poster, but want the name to be a surprise when baby comes.
So we are strongly considering Rachel or Leah for our daughter's first name. We like the sound of both with our last name.
Which do you like better?
Do you care at all about name meanings? Leah = weary which is kind of depressing. Rachel = ewe which is more neutral.

I appreciate all the responses so far. Could some of the folks who think both are awful tell me a bit about their opinion -- Are they dated names? Too common?

I really like both of them. Very pretty and I think they both stand the test of time. Who cares if other people think they are awful. They are beautiful and u like them that is all that matters.

I am shocked that 7 people think that they are both awful. I am not a fan of Rachel but i don't think it's awful. I love Leah!

I am a firm believer in naming the baby what you and dh want to name it....if you LOVE both names and cant decide, wait til the baby is born, look at her and see if she looks like a Rachel or a Leah

Rachel was my childhood best friend's name, she passed away when we were 15 and I would have loved to name a girl after her.
Actually, Leah Rachel or Rachel Leah are both nice names

I like both names, but I like Leah better. Leah in the Old Testament was a very strong woman and I associate the name with strength and being a mother figure.

I don't understand why people would say both names are awful. I guess they just aren't "trendy" enough. I think they are both beautiful names.

I really like Rachel. There was a girl in our class named Leah who was extremely messy/sloppy & had a problem w/ using the toilet so when I hear the name that is what/who I think of.

there is always someone that won't like a name. You can't please everyone and everyone has their opinions, likes and dislikes and their own history with names.
Honestly, I don't tell anyone the name we picked, because I know that there will be someone that won't like it, that will say something stupid about it and I just don't want to deal with that.
If you and DH like the names.. who else matters? I personally voted for Leah - I think its VERY pretty.

I'm partial to the name Rachel (35 years on and I still think its a lovely name to have) but I also think Leah is a beautiful name. Both names are really lovely, pretty names that will be a joy to carry through life.

The ***only*** problem I have with the name Rachel is that people have called me Rachel for YEARS...and my name is Rebecca. Actually, I think my problem is with my own name, because I don't know many Rachel's who get called Rebecca...
Anywho, I like both of them. They are both biblical, and I'm partial to biblical names.

I agree, but I like Rachel better. It is actually one of our top girl names as well.

I get called Rebecca at least once a month.  Doesn't bother me though...I can understand the confusion. I think they were sisters in the Bible (someone tell me if thats righ) It doesn't bother me at all.
