DNC question

A friend of mine had a DNC on Friday....we are all very sad but wondering how long is reccomended before trying again. She has an appointment in 3 weeks to be sure that she has healed. How do you know when you are ovulating after a miscarriage? Do you just take an OPK everyday?

I am sorry for your friends' loss Chat Icon

I had a D&C nearly 8 weeks ago, and I was told by my OB/GYN to wait 2 full cycles (to get two natural periods) before we start TTCing again..

Every doctor does recommend something different, however - and she will probably get further instructions on her follow up visit, based on how she has healed, etc. Many ladies get PG immediately after a miscarraige or D&C and have perfect pregnancies

Also - its quite common not to get your period "regularly" after a DNC.. my GYN told me it would take anywhere from 6-8 weeks to get my AF, and sure enough I just got my period today.. close to 8 weeks after the procedure

I did not even bother with OPKs or anything like that, since I knew we could not TTC right now anyhow. But since I got my period today, I am going to begin charting again and temping/using OPKs to try and get a gist of my cycles again (whichin my case were irregular pre-pregnancy.. so I'm wondering how they will be now)

Hope that helped!

Re: DNC question

I just had one done this morning, and I go back for a check-up to my gyno in 2 weeks, and go back to my RE in a month.
They told me I had to wait about 6 weeks till I get a true period and then wait another normal cycle.
So I probably wouldnt start till almost Jan.Chat Icon So much for be being PG for Xmas

Re: DNC question

I didn't have a dnc, but with my m/c in July we did not listen to dr's orders. You're friend should do what she thinks is best for her. You can ovulate right after a m/c, in which I did and are now PG. So if she does decide to wait, make sure she knows to use protection, because you can get PG.

I m/c'd naturally, but from what my dr has told me with a d&c, the uterine liner needs to build up a tad bit more than if you m/c naturally. Without a full liner to grab onto, the fertilized egg may have some trouble diggin in.

I do believe the recommended 3 months is more of an emotional grieving time, then healing physically. and that it's such a personal decision when to start trying again. I personally feel the miracle of conception to birth is a system we just don't know enough about. Our body is amazing and knows what's best. In order to get a view of what my body was doing, I started charting my temps so I could know what was going on and then used OPK's when the time was right. I was due to get my AF 6 weeks after the m/c.

So sorry for your friend's loss

Re: DNC question

I am sorry about your friend. I had one about 2 weeks ago - my dr. told me that I should wait one month before trying again....I assume that means one month after I get AF, whenever that will be.

Re: DNC question

I didnt have a d/c when I M/C and my doctor told me to wait about 2 cycles to start trying again but i didnt listen I got pregnant a few days after i m/c and have a healthy boy but the said that was very dangerous to try that soon after. so your friend has to do what feels right for her.
