Approaching a co-worker with really bad B.O.

What is the most tactful way? We have no HR department. It's a woman and she's not exactly a friend, but she's someone I'd go out to lunch with every once in a while.

More than one person has noticed and I really don't want to embarass her, but she needs to know that she smells like a trucker with really bad b.o.

Help!!

I don't think there is a tactful way to tell someone they smell. You just have to be direct.

If direct isn't your strong suit, might I suggest telling her that she needs to switch deoderants b/c the one she is using just isn't working.

Who is her direct supervisor? I would ask them to talk to her about it.

if there is no HR department, and you are not her superior, then i suggest telling her superior and letting them take care of it - especially if you socialize with this woman at all.

Can you leave a typed note or something on her desk?

I think that this is what I might do. I'm close with our supervisor and if I tell her I just hope that she's tactful.

We had that problem with one of the guys. One of the managers had to call him into his office and tell him.

The manager was tactful and tried to make it sound like maybe it was his clothing, but the guy knew what he meant.

It helped for awhile but the smell is back now...

There was a classmate of mine who had this problem. We typed him a note. Well, I did Chat Icon I first pointed out his good qualities and then proceeded to let him know about the b.o. There is no tactful way of doing this. God, good luck!

As a few others suggested, I would speak to his direct supervisor. Even if it is in your nature to be able to confront someone about such an issue, in this instance I would not being that he does not report to you.

Good luck! I hope it all turns out well!

we had a similar situation. My manger told him that he needed to wash his cloths and shower before he came to work. Unfortunately, he still stinks sometimes.
