What is your criteria for not allowing a student to attend a field trip?

I have a student who has been late to school over 20 times this year. She's been given lunch detention more than once, but it's not really having an impact. The thing that gets me angry is that she's at school on time, but chooses to hang out in the yard till the last possible second and gets to the room after the bell.

We are taking a trip on Friday. I am tempted to not allow her to go, but I don't know if it would be mean of me because I am so frustrated with her.

Has she returned the permission slip yet?

I would confer with your administration dean or what not. Something should also be done about her latenesses too.

oh you just made my day with this post. My class is supposed to go bowling next month and now im going to tell one of my students mothers that her daughter cant go if she continues to be late

her daughter is late almost everyday by anywhere from 15-45 minutes and the other day showed up at 1015 (we start at 840). the mom is really supportive and although she makes excuses for her daiughter wants our help to get her to school on time. so this may work!

My principal says that everyone is allowed no matter what. It is horrible!

I spoke to my AP and principal today and they both supported me in wanting to ban her.

Ironically, she didn't show at all today (I didn't think anything of it because attendance hasn't been an issue.) Her dad showed up at lunch to pick her up because her mom fell down the stairs in her building and was in the hospital. Turned out that she and a few other kids were found in another kid's home partying when they were all supposed to be in school. I am hoping that this leads to a positive change!
