Anyone in the process of adopting???
I always check on these boards becuase my DH and I are TTC right now, but we 100% have our minds set on adopting in addtion.
I love reading and following all of the stories but I haven't seen much on lately?
Can everyone suggest their Adoption agents offices of which they used, and the country they adopted from.
Thanks!

Re: Anyone in the process of adopting???
Hello there : )
We used Children's Hope International and adopted from China. We loved our agency and they were very helpful from day one of the process. They were also excellent in our travel and had multiple guides with us throughout the trip to pick up our daughter. To us this was the most important part of picking an agency...the customer service and travel services.
Good luck!!

Re: Anyone in the process of adopting???
my husband and i will probably start the process in the next year or so. i have a genetic "thing" that makes me unable to have bio kids. we would love to go with china, but you can't start the process until you're 30 and the wait times for referral are now up to about 2 years i've heard... and we don't want to wait quite that long! my husband was recently at the doctor and the doctor was talking about his daughter who is adopted from china and how its the best country to adopt from health wise, becuase the care is so good over there. we are also looking into taiwan, becasue DHs best friend of 15 years is from taiwan and it would be great to have him help us show the child the culture and everything. but, the wait times there seem to be getting very long, too. ( a lot of people are going to that program instead of china) korea is another option, but i REALLY want a little girl ( call me whatever, but i feel like if i have this, and have to adopt, i want to get the child that i want) and korea doesn't let you request the sex of the child unless you already have your own at home. soo.. we'll see. we're still sorting it all out in our heads! good luck with whatever you decide to do... and remember to be thankful that you can have your own bio children, too!

Where ever you chose you will have a wonderful child to give care too that they couldn't get on their own. I am actaully very suprised in reading that you can only start the process at 30 yrs old... I am only 27, and we wanted to start the process rather soon since we know it can take up to 2-3yrs.
I am very thankful that I could "potentially" have a bio child, I have had several OBGYN surgeries, 1 of which they thought I might have had to have a hystorectomy... so I am not that in the clear. Whatever the case, we have always had our heart set on adopting because we would love to open our hearts to a child that needs it, and we would in return learn a lot from that child. I agree that having your child know about is hertiage is key...
Good luck in whatever you choose!
I am glad to see that this board still has some girls on it!

Re: Anyone in the process of adopting???
My Mom recently adopted from China. The company she used is Harrahs, they are the sponsor of this webpage. They offer a program through Vietnam which I believe has a much shorter wait than the China program. I know her wait was over 2 years. My sister is absolutely adorable and I can't imagine our lives without her. I wish everyone who is planning on adopting the best of luck with their journeys!

Re: Anyone in the process of adopting???
We adopted our Son with the help of Children of the World in Syosset. Jack is from Russia.
The process in Russia has changed a bit since we adopted but its still a fairly quick program. You can have a baby home in under a year if you work with a currently accredited agency and are on top of your paperwork. You can choose the sex of your child but there tends to be a longer wait for girls. It's becoming more common to be referred a toddler 12mo +. You do have to travel and I am hearing some regions are requiring 3 trips.
There are children all over the world that need loving parents. Research all the options and keep an open mind. When we started the process we never thought we would go to Russia. Now I look at my boy and I know we were meant to be together. If we decide to go for #2 we would go back to Russia in a heartbeat.

Re: Anyone in the process of adopting???
we adopted our daughter, Diana from China a little over 2 years ago. We used GWCA and they now have agencies in Texas and Florida. Honestly, I would not reccomend them. If I were to do it again, I would go to another agency. They were kind of over priced, especially on travel, compared to other agancies and not as flexible with things you could do in China. (for the actual adoption they were fine, but no better than some of the other agencies out there). I would not change a thing for us, as I could not ever imagine our lives without our daughter.
The China wait has definetly become really long. It will be interesting to see if after the olympics it shortens up again a bit. Yes you need to be 30 to adopt and married for 5 years, among other requirements.
Good luck in whatever you decide. Adoption is a wonderful experience, one I would not trade for anything

Thank you for all the info... Just as a general question... My husband and I have been married going on 2 years in May... but we have been together for 7 years...
How do people who are not married adopt ify ou say that you need to be married for 5 years... what if you aren't marred, or in a same sex commitment relatonship in which they cannot get married in most states... Just wondering...

Hi there! My DH and I ttc for about 6 years before we started the adoption process. I am adopted from Korea so for DH and I there was no question... Our beautiful daughter came home in July 2006 and she is the best thng that ever happened to us!
Turns out about a year to the date of her homecoming we found out we were pregnant!! I am now 4+ months and looking forward to giving my daughter a little brother or sister.
We do hope to adopt again though in a few years!
We went through New Beginnings in Mineola and they were wonderful!

Re: Anyone in the process of adopting???
personally I only know about China. They used to do a certain number of single parent adoptions (under new guidelines, they will always take married over single, which to me seems like single adoption is virtually gone because there will always be married couples waiting). I would guess that as a single you would complete the adoption process on your own, then down the line the child can be adopted here in the US by the partner, as is the case with Angelina and Brad

Re: Anyone in the process of adopting???
Hi, my name is Diane and my husband and I reacently adopted a beatuiful baby boy after trying to have a baby for years. I had three miscarriages and did invitro and then we decided to adopt. We waited for 2 1/2 years but it was so worth it. Our miracle arrived at the end of July. Now I know what I waited my whole life for. We are truly blessed.
Best of luck to you and your family. Diane
